Are you trying to get dressed during a spring or summer pregnancy?
Maybe you’ve heard other pregnant women rave about maternity bike shorts but you’re wondering how to wear them if you aren’t heading to a cycling studio.
Personally, I was a little skeptical of the bike short trend until I got this fantastic pair of Blanqi maternity biker shorts in the mail. The same week we hit temperatures in the 80s and leggings weren’t going to cut it.
Today I have 10 different ways to style this same pair of black maternity bike shorts – everything from lounging around the house to meeting friends for brunch (and one or two that are allllmost office wear).
The pair of maternity bike shorts I’m wearing:
I love this pair from Blanqi because they are SO comfortable, especially on my growing belly. They come in this black and a cream color (which is darling, until you start sweating). I wear these for workouts, for lounging, and everything in-between.
The fabric is a thicker stretchy knit that manages not to be hot at all. They are on the shorter side of maternity bike shorts and ride up a little bit throughout the day. If you’re looking for a longer pair, these maternity bike shorts from Fabletics are really comfortable and a fantastic price point.
Amazon maternity bike shorts:
If you’re looking for maternity bike shorts with free shipping, these ones come highly recommended. I haven’t personally tried them but trust products on Amazon that have that many positive reviews.
Maternity Bike Short Outfit Ideas
Make it Workwear
1. With a blazer and mules
You probably aren’t strolling into your office with this outfit on (but swap out the bike shorts for leggings and you can probably pull it off). That shouldn’t stop you from wearing it, though. Whether you’re taking Zoom meetings, heading to brunch, or getting a few things done at a co-working space, the blazer + bike short combo totally works.
Recreate this look:
- Everlane Blazer: A great quality staple I’ve had for years
- Madewell button-down (short sleeved): Not maternity but I’ve worn it over the bump and unbuttoned with nursing tanks or over a swimsuit.
- Madewell tote: Another classic I’ve had for years
- Amazon Mules: New, budget friendly slip on for when you’re too pregnant to bend over

Out and About
2. With a boxy button-down
Whether you’re showing up for Zoom meetings and need something pulled together on top, you’re heading in for a prenatal appointment, or you’re running errands around town, give your biker shorts a put-together feel with a button-down.
Picking the right button-down: For this look, a cropped, boxy button-down is going to work best. I love this one when I’m not pregnant with high waisted jeans and love how easy it is to wear even with a third trimester bump with leggings or biker shorts.
Recreate this look:
- Everlane Oxford Shirt
- Everlane Sneakers
- Freshly Picked City Pack (my favorite neutral diaper backpack I use when I’m out with kids or taking my laptop to Starbucks)

3. With a long-line sports bra
The big win of the crop top and long-line sports bra trend is it eliminates the need for a lot of maternity workout tops. Just grab a new sports bra with your biker shorts and you’re set.
Wear this to your favorite workout class and afterwards to grab a smoothie. Chase your kids around in it at the park. Lounge around in it at home. It truly doesn’t get more comfortable than this.
Recreate this look:
- Longline sports bra: I ordered this off of Amazon in one size up and it is SO comfortable. It isn’t the most supportive for high impact exercises (it would be fine if I had ordered my regular size) but it is perfect as a comfortable maternity bra without any underwire. I’ll wear this one all day as a regular bra with no complaints. It comes in quite a few colors.
- APL sneakers: Love these for workouts and just being out and about.
- Tumbler: The best insulated cup for on-the-go (fits in a car cup holder).
- Quilted athleisure jacket: Jockey (no longer available)

4. With a button-down (or any maternity tee) and a cardigan
Cute and casual, this is your go-to maternity leggings outfit, made summery. Grab a cardigan in your favorite hue (this citron is so fun) and layer it over your favorite top.
The bonus of the bulky cardigan is it hides all the bumps/lumps while still showing off the baby bump (I especially love this in the third trimester when I’m less thrilled about wearing anything tight).
Recreate this look:
- Chunky cardigan: I own this Amazon staple in 4 colors now and it is fantastic. I’ve had a few of them for 3 years and use this sweater shaver on them at the start of each season. Can’t beat the quality for the price.
- Clear Strappy Sandals: How fun are these? An on-trend shoe you don’t have to bend over to put on = pregnancy win
- Madewell button-down (short sleeved): Not maternity but I’ve worn it over the bump and unbuttoned with nursing tanks or over a swimsuit. Tumbler: The best insulated cup for on-the-go (fits in a car cup holder).
- Circle bag: This comes in a few colors, is under $50, and is surprisingly roomy.

Rock the Crop
5. With a cropped sweater set
I LOVE finding a great non-maternity piece I can wear while pregnant and then keep for afterwards. Cropped sweater sets are in right now and they pair really well with any high waisted maternity biker short or legging. You can also mix and match with your favorite cardigans.
Wear this to your Zoom meetings, out to lunch with friends, or just at home (it is so soft and comfortable).
Recreate this look:
- Cropped sweater set: I ordered this off of Amazon and it is SO soft and so comfortable. I have a few pieces from this same brand and have really liked them.
- Veja sneakers: These have been my go-to casual sneakers for the last year. The velcro is much easier than tying shoes during pregnancy and they’re very comfortable. Plus, they’re real leather so they wipe clean (with a warm wash cloth or a magic eraser to get out tougher stains).
Tie it up
6. With a button-down all tied up or open over a tank/tee
Grab your favorite oversized button down (or steal one from your partner’s closet) to recreate this look. Wear it open over your favorite maternity tank or tie it up over the bump (buttoned or unbuttoned).
Recreate this look:
- Oversized Button down (non-maternity): This comes in limited sizes and runs big. I’m wearing a S/M and have plenty of room. I’ll wear this with leggings post partum as well. Love the color on this one.
- Everlane sneakers: A great clean, simple, comfortable sneaker that can wipe clean.
- Soon Maternity/ Nursing Tank: This is incredibly soft and high quality. I love the extra coverage for summer (especially while you’re pregnant and more sensitive to sun damage).

Sweatshirt
7. With your favorite maternity sweatshirt + sneakers
Don’t overthink this one. Just grab your favorite maternity sweatshirt and call it a day.
This one I’m wearing is from Hatch and is a bit dressier than a regular sweatshirt but you get the idea. Also, if you’re looking for a great striped sweatshirt/ sweater / top, this one is on the pricier end but one of 3 maternity pieces from my last pregnancy that I still wore regularly post partum.
Recreate this look:
- Striped Bateau Top: A favorite maternity investment piece from my last pregnancy I wore regularly post partum and again this time around. For more casual maternity sweatshirts, I like H&M.
- Velcro Veja Sneakers: These have been my go-to casual sneakers for the last year. The velcro is much easier than tying shoes during pregnancy and they’re very comfortable. Plus, they’re real leather so they wipe clean (with a warm wash cloth or a magic eraser to get out tougher stains).

Favorite Maternity Tee + Denim Jacket
8. With your favorite maternity sweatshirt + sneakers
This is the most comfortable of all the options. The tee is the softest maternity piece you’re going to buy and the oversized denim jacket pulls the look together while still also being very comfortable.
Recreate this look:
- Long v-neck maternity tee: Mother Bee Maternity (these are the best loose-fit maternity tee)
- Oversized denim jacket: Such a comfortable piece I’ve been wearing on repeat
- Madewell tote: A classic I’ve used and loved for years
Slimming Black Tank
9. With your go-to black tank and denim jacket
You could totally actually work out in this outfit but it also works for running errands or hanging out with friends. All you need is your go-to black top layer for a flattering fit.
I’m wearing this ribbed Nom maternity tank that is fantastic quality and SO comfortable. You can recreate this same look with a fitted black tee as well.
Recreate this look:
- Ribbed Maternity Tank: Such a comfortable, quality maternity staple (also comes in white and is under $50).
- Denim Jacket: I’ve had this jacket for 6 years. Great quality, comfortable, and a classic, timeless style.
- Everlane sneakers: A great clean, simple, comfortable sneaker that can wipe clean.
Oversized Tee – No Maternity Required
10. Oversized tee (knotted above the belly or hanging loose):
Have an oversized tee you love? Bike shorts are a great way to wear non-maternity tees without worrying about your belly showing. Leave it loose or knot it right above your belly to show off your bump.
Add a denim jacket and your favorite belt bag for an easy, no-fuss outfit. Bonus points is that you’ll wear everything in this outfit post-partum as well.
Recreate this look:
- Oversized denim jacket: Such a comfortable piece I’ve been wearing on repeat
- Belt Bag: A favorite Amazon find that has been on repeat for about a year
- Velcro Veja Sneakers: These have been my go-to casual sneakers for the last year. The velcro is much easier than tying shoes during pregnancy and they’re very comfortable. Plus, they’re real leather so they wipe clean (with a warm wash cloth or a magic eraser to get out tougher stains).
Other Styling ideas:
- With your favorite graphic tee knotted above your belly
- With a cropped sweater
