Favorite Budget Maternity Swim

Today we’re talking all about my favorite spot for cheap maternity swimsuits. Don’t miss the full list of places to buy cute maternity clothes.

Favorite Maternity Swim Review: H&M Mama Scalloped Swimsuit

Last pregnancy, a few years ago, I ordered this red ruffled maternity swim suit from H&M on a whim. It was $35 which seemed on the low to mid-range for maternity swim at that point – nothing close to the $100+ suits at Nordstrom but not very far off from the $39.99 suits at Motherhood Maternity or Gap.

It turned out to be, hands down, my most flattering and comfortable maternity suit (even in comparison to suits I had at triple the price). Somewhere in the three moves since then it has gone missing so I was once again on the hunt for a cute, flattering, budget-friendly maternity suit.

Maternity prices have gone up quite a bit in the last two years and maternity swim can now run you $59 at Pink Blush, $90 at GAP, and over $100 at Nordstrom. Even Motherhood Maternity (a mainstay for budget-friendly maternity pieces) has raised their prices so their cheapest one piece is $50.

H&M had NOTHING listed on their site in the maternity swim category for the first few months of this pregnancy but three weeks ago they listed this scalloped number. It is a different cut than my beloved red suit but I ordered it in two sizes and hoped for the best.

Here’s how it stacks up:

First impressions:

The first thing I noticed is that the scalloped edging is not reinforced/ stitched at all. The material just seems to be cut in a scalloped shape. I wasn’t certain how this would last over time but, it was only $35 in the day and age where GAP has raised their maternity swim prices to $89, so I tried it on.

Fit:

I ordered a size S in maternity (my tts at this point and one size up from my regular pre-pregnancy size) and it has plenty of room for a growing bump. My chest has a little more room to grow as well (while already being probably a 34D/DD at this point.

I also ordered a medium. The small fit better right now but I kept both so I’ll have something to wear during those hard last few weeks of an August third trimester.

The swimsuit has removable pads in the chest and medium coverage in the bum (there’s a pretty good bum coverage shot on the product page). The front is a medium scoop neck which gives you a flattering amount of skin while still holding everything in.

Quality

You are not going to find a better made maternity swimsuit for under $50 right now. If you’re trying to do maternity swim on a budget your options are mostly Shein, Amazon, and this H&M option (soon you might be able to find some of the resort line’s suits on sale as brands start to release their summer collections).

I’ve worn it to the pool and to the beach and it is comfortable (and a big step up for this $7 Shein suit I liked well enough).

Conclusion:

If you plan on swimming while pregnant and are in the market for a maternity one piece, this one is classic, flattering, chic, and SUCH a good deal.

In the last few days H&M has also listed ONE other maternity swim option. If scallops aren’t your thing, they do have this solid black swimsuit option. I haven’t tried it but I bet its as solid pick for $35.

P.S. I’m still hoping they bring back to the classic red suit (you can go sign up for restock notifications like I have).
