Have you heard of the brand True Classic Tees before? Maybe you’ve seen a social media ad about how to fix your dad bod? They tout themselves as the best fitted tees for men but how do their products really hold up? Are they worth the hype?
About True Classic Tees
True Classic Tees was founded by Ryan Bartlett (founder and current CEO), Matt Winnick, and Nick Ventura in May 2019. True Classic Tees prides themselves on superior fit, high quality clothing, and fantastic customer service. They’ve also gained a reputation for entertaining ads that give you a good laugh. Maybe you’ve seen their funny commercials on tiktok or gotten a target instagram ad?
I ordered a set of basic t-shirts and a few other things for my husband and brother so we could test them out.
After an initial try on and a few weeks of wear, here is our review of the True Classic T-shirts:
What we ordered from True Classic Tees
- Mystery V-neck
- V-neck in black (sized up)
- V-neck in white (regular size)
- Comfort Chino Pants in Khaki
- Long Sleeve Crewneck in black
- Classic crewneck in military green heather
After I added the products to my cart and went to check out, I got an option to add “mystery tees” to my order. I could only add one mystery tee. I could select from a vneck, crewneck or polo. I could choose the size. I couldn’t choose the color. The tee was sold at a big discount. The regular vneck I ordered was $25 full price and on sale for $18.74. The mystery tee was only $8.99. When it arrived it was a bright green color (you can see it on the table in the top picture). Here you can see what I ordered and the prices we paid.
What we love about True Classic Tees
Fit: They do have a great fit. I should really take a picture in a regular v neck to show the comparison but the fit is a step above some other brands.
Feel: True Classic Tees are made from ring-spun cotton. According to my husband these are a substantial material that are still comfortable (not too thick and not too thing). They aren’t as soft as a jersey or modal blend tee but are soft to the touch and comfortable to wear.
Color options: We ordered all classic colors, mostly black and white. True Classic Tees does have some color options. The bright green that came in the mystery shirt is a great vibrant green that is true to color from their site.
Price: These are a lot cheaper than high end tees but feel a lot like James Perse premium tees (for 1/5 the price).
What we don’t love about True Classic Tees
We haven’t worn these tees long enough to see how they hold up to frequent washing. The biggest complaint is that they start to pill and fall apart after 3+ washes. Ours are still holding up after 3 washes but we’ll see how they do past that (I’ll come back and update this post if they start to fall apart).
My husband is also partial to a jersey blend in tees. He really likes these as a cotton tee but prefers these tees from Jockey for lounging.
Which True Classic Tees should you order?
If you’re new to True Classic Tees, just order whatever tee shirt you normally wear. If you prefer crewneck, start there. If you’re a v-neck guy (like Ben) start there.
True Classic Tees also offers a couple of different bundle options if you need a tee shirt overhaul and you get a discount by ordering a bundle. Here are a few of the bundles:
- see all bundles here
- classic crewneck bundle
- colored vneck bundle
- anything from their long sleeves collection
If you’re up for adding one more shirt to your order, the long sleeve black crewneck is everyone’s favorite. It looked great on both guys who tried it on and goes with everything.

We haven’t tried Fresh Clean Tees but almost everything I’ve read confirm they are almost identical with Fresh Clean Tees being a few dollars cheaper. If you’ve tried both, will you leave a comment below? We’d love to hear how they compare.
