19 Weeks Maternity Outfit + Update

A little 19 week maternity update:

Eating: I am still avoiding a lot of sweets and making all the creamy + cheesy things. Give me pasta with a creamy sauce, tacos or enchiladas with plenty of cheese and sour cream, homemade bread and butter. This week I made this easy bolognese recipe for the first time and it was so tasty.

Loving: I am loving having a bit more energy these days and mostly out of the first trimester symptoms. Still some lingering nausea and slowly trying to wean off of the Unisom + B6 combo I’ve been on for nausea for the last two months.

I have also been back at high fitness and am doing 1-2 classes per week (which is about all the exercise I’m doing at all) and it feels so good. Now i just need to find the motivation to push myself to exercise on days I’m not going to a class.

I am also loving new maternity clothes.

Hating: A lot of my strong aversions from the first trimester are going away (I made bacon again!) but I am really not loving how with each subsequent pregnancy I start to feel further along earlier on. I show sooner (which is fine) but the aches and pains set in a lot sooner and it has been mentally harder to cope with the idea of just getting continually less functional for the next 4 months.

Feeling: The pregnancy hormonal emotional roller coaster is real. Some days are great and some days are not so great. I’m trying to get back into some of the things I know help me feel better (more regular exercise, putting away screens in the evening, getting dressed, journaling, having the house clean) and having something to look forward to each month of pregnancy. I am SO excited for this tiny little baby to arrive but at the moment the months leading up to that event feel a bit daunting.

Sleeping: Sleeping is hard. I stopped my Unisom sleep aid tablet (for nausea) the last few days after doing a half dose for the last week. Last night I was in bed by 10 and probably asleep by 11 (which felt like a long time to lay awake). I woke up at 1 am and couldn’t fall back asleep until closer to 4:30/5 am. I’m going to be more diligent about a solid bedtime routine and see what I can do about this because 9 hours in bed and 4 hours of sleep just isn’t cutting it.

update: I’m just sticking with the Unisom + B6 combo for now. A little more medication is worth the nausea and sleep benefit for me

Missing: I’m missing the energy and extra capacity to do some things (like hosting or planning or tackling lots of projects in an afternoon). I find I really need to budget my physical and emotional energy in a day which can be frustrating.

Weighing: I’m still about on track for my usual one pound a week weight gain that I’ve done with all three of my previous pregnancies.

Wearing: I’m still wearing a mix of maternity and non-maternity clothes.

Outfit details:

Trench: Yoins

This light, flowy trench has been a closet staple for the last year but even more so while pregnant. It makes any legging or denim outfit look put together and goes with just about everything. I really love that it has a lot less structure than a traditional trench coat (the fit is more forgiving as you gain weight through pregnancy and it just drapes nicely). The material is thin and soft. The quality on this one is about what you’d expect for a coat under $50 but I reach for this over more fitted trenches I have that are twice the price.

Tee: Pink Blush Maternity

I love a non-fitted / non-ruched maternity tee and this beige ribbed one from Pink Blush Maternity is such a good neutral. I’ve only been wearing it for 2 weeks but love the ribbed texture makes it a little more interesting than a basic tee but the color means you can wear it with just about anything.

Denim: Madewell (maternity)

These are comfortable and the same quality you expect from regular Madewell denim. You can read the full review here.

Sandals: Steven

I bought these a few years ago and they’re still a staple. They don’t have a ton of support so I prefer Kork-ease slides as I get further along or for more walking but I love that these look put together without having to bend down and actually put on a pair of shoes.

Sunglasses: Karen Walker

These are my favorite sunglasses – a bit of a splurge for me but ones I wear just about every day.
