A great maxi dress is a maternity wardrobe staple. You can dress it up. You can dress it down. If you buy the right one, it is incredibly comfortable while still being flattering. It should work for all stages of pregnancy (and often post partum as well).

Maxi dresses also work in all seasons of pregnancy although they’re particularly great for warmer months.

I’ve rounded up the cutest maternity maxi dresses you can buy right now so if you’re looking for those, just scroll to the bottom of the post!

Where to where a maternity maxi dress:

  • everyday: Whether you’re running errands, meeting friends for brunch, taking kids to the park, or working around the house, a casual maternity maxi is comfortable and functional.
  • date night: throw on wedges and a denim jacket with some great earrings and you’re set for date night (squeeze in as many of those as you can before baby arrives).
  • dressier event: You can find a few styles of maternity maxi dresses that you can dress up for nicer events if you don’t want to splurge on a formal maternity dress. Find something with a more fitted silhouette up top that then drapes nicely to the floor. Add some gold or sparkly jewelry, some low heels, and pull your hair back into a chignon and you won’t be able to tell it is the same dress you wore to the grocery store last week.
  • maternity photos: a maxi dress can be a great options for maternity photos. If you’re trying to find the perfect dress for maternity pictures, be sure to read this post.

Top Rec: Widest selection, tons of styles, and comfortable, flattering fits and fabrics.

1. Pink Blush Maternity

I’ve worn Pink Blush Maternity pieces for all four of my pregnancies and the thing I love MOST about them is how soft and comfortable the fabric on their pieces is. Each maxi dress I’ve worn from them has been buttery smooth and SO comfortable on my growing belly.

They have tons of different options in just about every color and level of formality. They also often run a few different sales (look for the 30% off your order).

Best Budget Options for Maternity Maxi Dresses Under $50:

2. Amazon

Amazon has everything and an easy maternity maxi dress is no exception. You can order from a few of their top rated maternity maxis or just go for a non-maternity maxi dress and size up (this works best if you are ordering a less fitted/ tee shirt type dress like the blue one I’m wearing in this post).

3. Zulily

Have you shopped Zulily before? This deal site is always running a few specials on maternity items from brands like Mother Bee Maternity (and others). The last 5 or 6 times I’ve been on there, they have a few maxi dress options.

4. Mother Bee Maternity

Carried on Amazon and Walmart, Motherbee has a wide assortment of maxi dresses priced around $30. Whether you’re looking for something solid, striped, or floral, they’ll have a few options for you.

5. Walmart

Walmart has a wide assortment of maternity clothes these days at varying price points. Because they list a lot of products not manufactured by them on their website (not sold in their stores), you’ll see a lot of maxi dresses from brands you haven’t heard of.

Tip: Narrow your search to “Time and Tru” if you’re looking for budget basics from Walmart’s in-house brand.

6. Target’s Isabel by Ingrid & Isabel Line

Target has LOTS of cute maternity clothes these days. My personal favorite is anything from the Isabel line which is a more budget friendly line from Ingrid & Isabel Maternity (try their cross-panel leggings or jeans).

7. Asos

Have you looked at Asos for maternity clothing yet? They have such a good on-trend selection that doesn’t scream maternity.

I ordered a handful of pieces from them recently and loved everything (except for the swim – skip their maternity swim). They have some great maternity maxi options from casual basics to pretty options for photos.

9. Shein

Shein Maternity is a great place to find budget maternity clothes that still bring the style. Don’t expect luxurious fabrics or really fantastic fits but for something like flowy maxi dresses, you’ll have lots of options.

Be sure to read reviews paying attention to fabric quality (is it see through?), sizing, and colors (sometimes things aren’t true to color in the product images).

Best Mid-Range Options for Maternity Maxi Dresses: $50-$100

10. Motherhood Maternity

The last few times I’ve looked Motherhood Maternity has exactly two options for maxi dresses. The selection is poor but if you like the dresses you’ll find a lot of other maternity staples on their site to add to your order.

8. Seraphine

If you’re looking for a beyond basic maternity maxi dress in quality fabric, try Seraphine. They have an assortment of styles and everything I’ve ordered from them has been fantastic over my last three pregnancies.

Best Higher End Maternity Maxi Options: $100+

11. Hatch

Not a necessity but very comfortable, very cozy, and I find that as I gain weight during pregnancy, my feet need more support. I love having these into my second and third trimesters (or I just wear sneakers around the house).

12. Tiffany Rose for high end maxi dresses

If you need a full length dress for a special event coming up this pregnancy, Tiffany Rose makes the most gorgeous maternity dresses. I have worn a handful of their pieces over my last few pregnancies and what sets them apart is the quality of the fabric. Not only are they super comfortable on your stretched skin/growing bump but the fabric drapes so beautifully.

You can order a selection of their pieces on Nordstrom here or directly from the Tiffany Rose site (it is a UK brand so budget a bit more time for shipping).
