My Two Minute Rule

//  by Elisabeth McKnight//  1 Comment

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Olay. The opinions and text are all mine.

One of the eight things I’m doing every day in 2018 is get my house “guest ready” once a day. In an effort to be an adult and have people over to an inviting space (and not have people over because our apartment is a mess), I’ve decided this goal needs to actually happen this year – it’s time.

Often it doesn’t happen until right before I go to bed and sometimes it only lasts for a brief moment during nap time, but I’ve realized I am happier, calmer, more social, and more productive when our space is clean.

So, you would think it would be easier.

But, of all the things on my daily list, this is the one I’ve been struggling with the most. I tried a similar New Years resolution a few years ago when I wanted to make having a clean house a priority and there was one little rule that made a huge difference.

The one-minute rule (which I amended to the two-minute rule).

If something will take me less than two minutes, I do it right then.

I take off my kids’ coats and want to drop them on a chair, but it would take me 45 seconds to hang them up on their hooks in their room. I go hang them up.

I finish eating a bowl of cereal at my desk and want to go straight to bed but it would take less than a minute to rinse the bowl and put it in the dishwasher. I clean the bowl.

So many small tasks, from unloading the dishwasher to putting away shoes, take less than two minutes but REALLY build up if I leave them all ’till the end of the day.

Another thing that takes less than two minutes is taking care of my skin. We just booked tickets for Spring Break (insert happy dance) so I might have an added incentive, but I’ve found something I can do to act a bit more grown up in my skin routine too.

After such a noticeable difference in the way my skin felt after the Olay 28 Day challenge before the holidays, I’m now trying the new Olay Cleansing Infusions. I just started using the Olay Cleansing Infusion Hydrating Glow Facial Cleanser (with Deep Sea Kelp and Aloe – I go for anything with aloe) on my face and the Olay Cleansing Infusion Hydrating Glow Body Wash with Deep Sea Kelp.

It’s a non-stripping cleanser (also available in Ginger)  that improve the skin’s condition as you wash (I’ll report back in a few weeks). They are also reported to improve the skin’s radiance by hydrating to better reflect light, giving off a natural glow (which I could use on the beach next month!).

So, here’s to no more piles of mess on the couch at the end of the day… and no more dull skin. It’s not so bad to #GlowUp after all 🙂

^not the prettiest shot – but this is what my office actually looked like before I sat down to edit the rest of these pictures (please note all the laundry draped on the chair in the back and ALL the clutter on my desk)

    I also try to live by the 2 minute rule, it keeps me so much more organized and it’s so easy once I am in the habit of doing it!
