Family Diary: Apple Picking at Parlee Farms

Lincoln and Adelaide both started preschool (same school, separate classes) this fall and we had our first field trip to Parlee Farms last week!

The kids were so excited when we showed up at the farm and they kept spotting kids from their class, even though I tried to explain the concept of a field trip and that all their friends from school would be there.

I was so grateful my mom and grandma met us at the farm so we had a better adult/child ratio. We’re up for outings just the four of us these days but having the extra hands is so appreciated and meant there was someone to lift Lincoln up to get the apples from the tops of the trees.

A few things I want to remember from the day:

  • Adelaide’s giddy shrieks as the goat licked up the feed from her open palms
  • Lincoln’s excitement at the corn maze
  • Both kids carefully inspecting apples before adding them to their bag (they were each allotted five apples)
  • How much fun they had with their little friends
  • Those apple cider doughnuts.

P.S. I CANNOT believe how much these kids have grown since we went apple picking last year (Adelaide is such a baby in those pictures!)

outfit details:

my sweater: Amazon! (it comes in a couple of colors and it’s my most worn purchase this season)

my baby carrier: We’ve used and loved this once since Lincoln was a baby

my shoes: there aren’t pictured but I wore these short slip-on rain boots in leopard (available in amazon in black and navy) and they’re awesome for places you’ll likely get your shoes super dirty but don’t want to wear a huge bulky rain boot

Adelaide’s chambray dress: GAP (old but in a lighter color on their site right now

Adelaide’s sweater: Target from last year (love this year’s version in a warmer grey here

Adelaide’s boots: Hunter (hand-me-downs from Lincoln and they’ll be Westley’s next)

Adelaide’s bow: part of this set

Lincoln’s fleece: Lands End (basically the same one here

Lincoln’s jeans: Target (our favorite kid’s line at Target)

Lincoln’s boots: Pediped (available on Amazon – our favorite kid’s footwear brand for quality)

And a million more pictures:

^I love this shot of Lincoln (and clearly has Ben’s deep set eyes)

^four generations of McKnight girls – so fun to have my grandma visiting
