50 Best Gifts for 1 Year Olds in 2026 (From a Mom of 4)

Every one of my kids has spent their first birthday more interested in the tissue paper than the present inside it. The gifts that actually got played with came out a few weeks later, once the party was over and the new toys had been pushed to the back of the playroom. Those are the ones on this list.

I’ve now done four first birthdays, and I’ve watched a lot of toys come and go between 12 months and 2. Some were a phase. A few got handed down from one kid to the next and are still in our playroom, even though my youngest is almost five. This post contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you.

Big brother hugging his baby sister as she plays with stacking boats

One year olds are tricky to shop for. They’re too old for most baby toys and too young for anything with small parts, and a 12 month old who is still crawling plays very differently from an 18 month old who is running laps around the kitchen. (All four of mine were late walkers, not really walking until 14 or 15 months, so I’ve thought a lot about which toys work for both.) So the real question is this: what are the best gifts for 1 year olds, the ones they’ll still be using at two?

I’ve sorted this list by how one year olds actually play. Everything in the first sections is something my kids have owned and used. Near the end, I’ve added a separate section of toys I asked other moms about (lots of moms!), clearly labeled, plus a few new 2026 releases worth knowing about.

How to Pick the Best Gift for a 1 Year Old

Here’s what I look for in a gift for a 1 year old after doing this four times:

  • It has to survive the mouth. Everything goes in at this age, so I skip small parts, anything that chips, and squirt toys that trap water.
  • Buy for 18 months, not 12. A one year old who is just cruising will grow into a push toy or a block set within a few months, and that’s when the real play starts.
  • Open-ended beats light-up. If there’s only one right way to play with something, it gets boring fast (and the songs get stuck in my head for days).
  • One big gift is plenty. First birthdays bring a pile of presents from family. Pick one bigger thing and let the small stuff come from everyone else.

Best Learning and Building Toys for 1 Year Olds

This is where I’d start for a first birthday (and if you want the why behind these picks, I wrote about brain-building gifts for toddlers). These are the toys that teach stacking, sorting and cause and effect without needing batteries, and they’re the ones still in our playroom.

Lovevery Block Set, the best gift for 1 year olds

⭐ Favorite Overall: Lovevery Block Set

Best for: ages 12 months to 4

Westley was gifted the Lovevery Block Set, and the whole family is obsessed. It’s a block set, a shape sorter and a threading set in one, with beautiful colors and so many shapes that there are dozens of ways to play. At one, it’s dropping blocks into the box and dumping them back out. By two, it’s towers and threading.

Worth knowing: it’s an investment, but this is the set I wish I’d had for all four of my kids. I’d give it before age three, so a first birthday is the perfect time.

Lovevery Play Kit for a 1 year old

Lovevery Play Kits

Best for: ages 0 to 4

We’ve gone through every Lovevery Play Kit, and I’ve loved them all. Each kit arrives matched to your child’s stage, so you never have to guess if your one year old is ready for it. The kits for 12 to 18 months are full of pushing, posting and stacking toys, and they make a great gift from grandparents who want to give something that keeps showing up all year.

Hide and Squeak Eggs toy for 1 year olds

Tomy Hide & Squeak Eggs

Best for: ages 6 months to 3

We’ve had these and love them. Six chunky eggs squeak when you press them into their carton, and a one year old will open, empty and refill that carton over and over. They’re also the toy that came up more than any other when I asked other moms, across years of threads. The one complaint: the eggs roll under the couch.

Mega Bloks First Builders for 1 year olds

Mega Bloks First Builders

Best for: ages 12 months to 3

Big, chunky blocks that a one year old can actually press together and pull apart. We’ve owned them and love them, and they’re a natural first step before Duplo. They’re light enough that nobody gets hurt when a tower comes down.

Wooden car ramp racer toy for 1 year olds

Wooden Car Ramp or Ball Tracker

Best for: ages 12 months+

Little cars click-clack down a zig-zag ramp, or balls roll down a wooden track, and one year olds will do it again and again. We’ve owned a few different versions and loved all of them. Anything made by Hape is fantastic, and this Hape ramp racer is a good place to start. The cars and balls are easy to lose, so look for a set with a spare.

B. toys wooden activity cube

B. toys Wooden Activity Cube

Best for: ages 1 to 3

We never owned one of these, but it was a big hit everywhere my kids found one: at grandma’s house, at friends’ houses and in a lot of waiting rooms. It has a bead maze on top and something different to spin, slide or open on every side. One mom in my group chose it as her daughter’s big first birthday gift, and it’s a great one to buy for a grandparent’s house.

Learning Resources jumbo farm animals for 1 year olds

Learning Resources Jumbo Farm Animals

Best for: ages 12 months+

We’ve had our jumbo farm animals for about ten years, and they’ve made it through all four kids. They’re the perfect size for little hands that are just learning to balance one thing on top of another, and they’re big enough that I never worried about them going in a mouth. Later they become the animals in every Magna-Tiles barn we build.

Fisher-Price Little People play house for 1 year olds

Fisher-Price Little People

Best for: ages 1 to 5

My kids have all played with Little People. The people are chunky and easy for small hands to grab, and one year olds love carrying them around and dropping them through every opening in the house. Start with the play house or the farm, and ask grandparents to add a set for the next birthday.

Creamy crayons and a big blank art book for a 1 year old

Creamy Crayons and a Big Blank Art Book

Best for: ages 1 to 3

Between the ages of 1 and 3, my kids always preferred a big blank art book to an actual coloring book, and we went through more than one. The big pages give little arms room to scribble. Creamy crayons were the first thing each of my kids colored with. They take very little pressure to get a bold color, which is exactly what a one year old needs. They are a little messy, but that’s been fine for us. More of our favorites are in my best art supplies for kids post.

Best Ride-On and Walking Toys for 1 Year Olds

Somewhere between 12 and 15 months, most kids start pulling up on everything. These are the toys that gave mine something to push, ride and climb.

Little Tikes Cozy Coupe push car for 1 year olds

Little Tikes Cozy Coupe

Best for: ages 1 to 3

If a 1, 2 or 3 year old comes over to our house, I already know where they’ll end up: in the little push car in our backyard. It’s the biggest hit with every toddler who visits. When we lived in Boston there were two in our apartment building’s playroom, and they were my kids’ very favorite thing in it. They push each other around, push their toys around or just scoot themselves in circles. It has been on my list of favorite toddler toys for years.

If you’d rather have something sleeker, this BMW push car has a handle for you and a horn for them.

VTech Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker for 1 year olds

VTech Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker

Best for: ages 6 months to 2

I’ll admit this one is a little obnoxious. It lights up and sings, and the songs will be stuck in your head. But every one of my kids loved it so much that we rebought it for more than one kid after moves. They played with the activity panel sitting down, then stood up and pushed it, and for late walkers like mine it was a great first walking toy because it’s sturdy enough to lean on.

Mini doll stroller for a 1 year old learning to walk

Mini Doll Stroller

Best for: ages 12 months to 4

A mini stroller was one of the most sought-after toys in our house, at the playground and in my parents’ basement. Once my kids were walking, it gave them something to push, and then it turned into pretend play with babies and stuffed animals. Ours has been passed down and is still well loved. We use the Gigglescape 3-in-1 from Target now.

Worth knowing: a light umbrella-style doll stroller tips over if your child isn’t steady yet. Mine were late walkers, so for them I’d start with the VTech walker above and save the stroller for around 15 months. If you have a 10 month old walker, they’ll be pushing a little stroller around by their first birthday.

Wooden pull-along dachshund toy for toddlers

Pull-Along Dachshund

Best for: ages 12 months to 3

Both of my older kids loved taking “the dog” for a walk once they were steady on their feet, and it made walks around the neighborhood a lot more entertaining. Ours didn’t make it to our fourth, but it was a favorite while it lasted.

Toddler toy shopping cart

Toy Shopping Cart

Best for: ages 12 months to 4

It’s not quite as popular as the mini stroller, but for some reason my kids love pretending to do one of my least favorite chores. For a new walker it works the same way a push walker does, and it pairs perfectly with play food.

Radio Flyer Ellie the Rolling Elephant ride-on for 1 year olds

Radio Flyer Ellie the Rolling Elephant

Best for: ages 1 to 3

A rocking horse, or really any ride-on toy, has always been a hit at our house, and this is the one I’d pick for a one year old right now. A friend raved about it. Ellie is a plush ride-on with wheels that roll in every direction, handles to hold onto and soft corduroy ears, and it sits low enough that a new walker can climb on and off by themselves. If your kid is more into dinosaurs, Dash the Rolling Dinosaur is the same ride-on in dinosaur form.

Stapelstein stepping stones for 1 year olds

Stapelstein Stepping Stones

Best for: ages 1 and up

My sister has a set of Stapelstein stepping stones, and our kids head straight for them every time we’re at her house. A one year old will crawl over them and sit in them, and older kids line them up to balance across or flip them into towers. If you want a cheaper option, these ones on Amazon are great.

Little Partners Learn N Climb triangle for toddlers

Little Partners Learn ‘N Climb Triangle

Best for: ages 1 to 6

This is a contained indoor climber that’s very popular in Montessori homes, and it’s great for balance and gross motor skills right when a one year old wants to climb everything. We play with it at my sister’s house, and I wish I’d splurged on one when my oldest was little.

Best Pretend Play Gifts for 1 Year Olds

Pretend play starts earlier than you’d think. A one year old is already copying everything you do, so these toys let them do it too.

Pop-up play tent and crawl tunnel for 1 year olds

Pop-Up Play Tent and Tunnel

Best for: ages 1 to 6

We LOVE a pop-up tent or tunnel when space is limited and you want to turn the living room into a playroom for a few hours. A one year old will crawl through a tunnel over and over (and over), and my youngest still disappears into her tent to play out whole stories at four. It pops open in seconds and folds back down flat when you need your floor back. This castle tent pairs well with a pop-up crawl tunnel if you want both.

Melissa and Doug cutting food set for toddlers

Melissa & Doug Cutting Food

Best for: ages 18 months+

Play food is still a huge win at our house. When Adelaide was 17 months old, she couldn’t cut the food on her own yet, but she loved doing it with my help. By four, Lincoln was spending half an hour at a time mixing salads and serving them to everyone at his little table. This is a great gift for a one year old who’s about to turn into a two year old, and it pairs with a play kitchen down the road.

Sarah's Silks play silks for a 1 year old

Sarah’s Silks Play Silks

Best for: ages 12 months+

We got play silks for Rosie, and they’ve been great. At one, a silk is a peekaboo game, a blanket for a baby doll or something to pull out of a tissue box. Later it’s a cape, a river for the farm animals or the roof of a fort. I did a lot of research before buying, and Sarah’s are the best. Add a mini rainbow streamer to your order, because it’s everyone’s favorite.

Schleich farm animals

Schleich Animals

Best for: ages 18 months+ with supervision

We’ve had Schleich animals, and they’re great. They’re realistic enough that a one year old starts learning real animal names and sounds, and they hold up to a lot of play. They’re labeled for ages 3 and up and a little harder and pointier than the jumbo animals, so I’d give these to an older one year old and keep an eye on them.

Friction powered toy cars for 1 year olds

Friction Powered Car Set

Best for: ages 1 to 3

This touch-and-go car set was a huge favorite for a lot of years. Kids give the cars a little push and they zoom off on their own, which is exactly the kind of cause and effect a one year old loves. The colors are bright, the cars are chunky, and it makes a great stocking stuffer.

Best Books for 1 Year Olds

Books are one of my favorite gifts at any age, and at one they need to survive being chewed, thrown and opened two hundred times. These are the ones we keep coming back to.

Usborne That's Not My touch and feel books

Usborne “That’s Not My…” Books

Best for: ages 8 months+

We’ve loved the ones we’ve been gifted. Every page has a textured patch to touch, and one year olds go back to them again and again. They’re small and inexpensive, which makes them an easy add-on to a bigger gift.

Where's Mr Lion felt flap board book for 1 year olds

Felt Flap Books

Best for: ages 9 months+

Felt flaps are great at this age because they don’t tear the way paper flaps do. The “Where’s Mr…” series by Ingela Arrhenius has felt flaps and a mirror on the last page, which every baby loves.

Sandra Boynton board book set for 1 year olds

Sandra Boynton Board Books

Best for: ages 6 months+

We love Sandra Boynton board books so much. They’re short, silly and rhythmic, so they’re fun to read out loud for the hundredth time, and one year olds start anticipating the funny part. A boxed set makes an easy first birthday gift.

Giraffes Can't Dance board book

Giraffes Can’t Dance

Best for: ages 1 and up

Gerald the giraffe can’t dance, until he finds his own music. It’s a rhyming story we love, and it’s one that grows with them, because the message lands more the older they get. The board book version is the one to give a one year old.

Jamberry board book by Bruce Degen

Jamberry

Best for: ages 6 months+

We love Jamberry. It’s a bouncy, nonsense-rhyme book about a boy and a bear picking berries, and the rhythm is so fun to read that even the youngest kids bounce along to it.

On the Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman

Nancy Tillman Books

Best for: ages 1 and up

We love all of Nancy Tillman’s books: On the Night You Were Born, The Crown on Your Head and It’s Time to Sleep, My Love are our favorites. The illustrations are beautiful and the words are all about how loved a child is, which makes them a sweet first birthday gift with a note written inside the cover.

Family photo love book for a 1 year old

A Family Photo Book

Best for: ages 1 and up

This is one of my favorite things I’ve made for my kids. I used Mixbook to make a “love book” (here’s how I made ours), with a page for each of the people who love them: grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. One year olds love pointing at faces they know, and it’s a sweet way to help them recognize family who live far away. It also makes a great gift from a grandparent.

Best Outdoor Toys for 1 Year Olds

Our Cozy Coupe lives in the backyard, but these are the two outdoor gifts I’d add for a one year old.

Step2 Rain Showers water table for 1 year olds

Step2 Rain Showers Water Table

Best for: ages 1 to 5

We’ve had a water table and loved it. It’s the kind of toy a one year old and a five year old can use side by side, and in warm weather it gets used almost every day. Add a few stacking cups and a funnel and you’ve set up an afternoon. It was also the outdoor gift other moms mentioned most, including three in my own group.

Gazillion bubble machine for toddlers

Bubble Machine

Best for: ages 12 months+

We’ve loved every bubble machine we’ve had. Turn it on in the backyard and a one year old will chase bubbles until they’re worn out. They don’t last forever (every one we’ve had has worn out eventually), but they’ve been worth it every time.

Best Bath Toys for 1 Year Olds

Bath time has always been one of my secret weapons for a long day. These are the bath toys that lasted longest with a one year old, and you’ll find the full list in my best toddler bath toys post.

Classic stacking cups, a favorite toy for 1 year olds

Classic Stacking Cups

Best for: babies through age 4

These have always been the most used toy in our house, and we still use them now that my youngest is four. They’re cups for rinsing hair, pots of soup for pretend dinner and a way to carry bubbles from one end of the tub to the other, and they’re just as good at the beach or on the living room floor. If you only buy one thing on this list, buy these. Later we upgraded to this Lovevery set, and I love the different pour rates.

One year old playing with Munchkin bath boats

Munchkin Bath Boats

Best for: ages 1 to 4

These sit right at the top of our bath toy list next to the stacking cups. It’s a set of six little boats that stack and link together into a train, and each one scoops and strains water. They come out of the tub and onto the bed, too (as you can see in these photos, where they’re also being chewed on).

Waterproof baby bath books

Baby Bath Books

Best for: babies and young toddlers

Waterproof books with numbers, shapes, colors and letters. They’re a good first book for a baby who puts everything in their mouth, and they were great when we had little ones in the tub. If you’re shopping for a one year old’s bath, I’d start here.

Oball toys for babies and 1 year olds

Oball Toys

Best for: babies and young toddlers

Every Oball toy we’ve owned has been a huge hit for a baby’s first toys. They’re easy for little fingers to grab, and they work just as well in the water as in the playroom. We lost ours in a move and I still miss them.

Boon Pipes bath toy for 1 year olds

Boon Pipes

Best for: ages 1 to 5

Five pipes that suction to the tub wall so your toddler can pour water in the top and watch where it comes out. Lincoln loved using these with cups to see how water moved, and I love that they stay up on the wall and off the floor of the tub.

Water xylophone bath toy

Rub a Dub Water Xylophone

Best for: ages 18 months+

This was one of my two oldest kids’ favorite bath toys. It’s officially labeled 3+, but mine played with it from about 18 months. The pieces float or stick to the tub wall, and it comes with waterproof sheet music.

Splurge Gifts for 1 Year Olds That Grow With Them

If you want one big gift, these are the ones we’ve used for years. They’re also the ones I point grandparents toward.

Pottery Barn Kids My First Anywhere Chair for a 1 year old

Pottery Barn Kids Anywhere Chair

Best for: ages 1 and up

We have three Anywhere Chairs, and they’ve been a huge hit at our house from about age one. Little ones love having a chair that’s just their size, and whenever younger kids come over, that’s where they want to sit. My youngest is four now and my older kids still climb into them for family movie night. They’re easy to move from room to room, and the covers zip off to wash.

Sizing note: Pottery Barn makes a My First Anywhere Chair for ages 1 to 3 and a regular Kids Anywhere Chair for ages 3 to 6. For a one year old, I’d go with the smaller My First size so they can climb in and out on their own.

Nugget play couch for toddlers

Nugget Play Couch

Best for: ages 1 and up

We have two Nugget couches, and they have been SO loved. At one, the cushions are something soft to climb on and roll off of. A few years later, they’re forts, tumbling mats and beds for living room sleepovers and family movie night. I think eventually having two gives you a lot more building options, but start with one and see how much you love it.

Pottery Barn Kids play kitchen

Pottery Barn Kids Play Kitchen

Best for: ages 18 months to 6

Rosie got a Pottery Barn Kids play kitchen for her second birthday, and she still plays with it now at almost five. We gave ours at two, but the moms I asked swear a first birthday isn’t too early, because a one year old starts by opening and closing the doors and hiding things in the cabinets. If Pottery Barn is more than you want to spend, this kitchen is a good alternative.

Useful Non-Toy Gifts for 1 Year Olds

Most one year olds already have more toys than they need, especially if there are older cousins handing things down. These are the gifts that get used every day.

Little Sleepies bamboo zip pajamas for babies and toddlers

Little Sleepies Pajamas

Best for: any age

We’ve tried a lot of pajama brands, and Little Sleepies are one we own and like. Pajamas in the next size up are one of my favorite things to ask for, because they’re always needed and nobody else thinks to buy them.

A few more ideas that came up again and again when I asked other moms:

  • The same lovey from every grandparent. One mom introduced a lovey at one and asked each grandparent to give the exact same one, so there’s always a spare and one can live at daycare.
  • Gear for the year ahead. A toddler rain suit, shoes and clothes in the next size, or feeding gear like a silicone straw cup, spoons and bibs.
  • A book for their library. Ask each party guest to bring a favorite book with a note inside the cover.
  • An experience. A zoo or children’s museum membership, or swim lessons.

What Other Moms Swear By (Gifts for 1 Year Olds We Haven’t Tried)

I didn’t want this list to be only the toys my own kids happened to own, so I asked. I went through a lot of mom forums and first birthday threads (including my own mom group), and these are the toys other parents brought up over and over. We haven’t owned these ourselves, so I’m sharing what other parents said about them.

Aquadoodle water drawing mat

Aquadoodle Water Drawing Mat

Best for: ages 12 months+

A mat you draw on with a water pen, so the picture shows up and then disappears as it dries. Parents loved it for mess-free coloring at this age. The one warning: babies like to chew the pens.

B. toys toddler drum set

Toddler Drum Set

Best for: ages 12 months+

A lot of moms said their one year olds loved a small drum set, and one said the drum and keyboard combo was her daughter’s favorite gift. The B. toys drum set came up by name. It’s loud, so maybe a gift for someone else’s house.

Playskool Busy Ball Popper toy

Playskool Busy Ball Popper

Best for: ages 9 months to 3

Balls pop out the top and roll down the ramps, and kids chase them back. Speech therapists like it for turn-taking and first words like “more” and “ball.” One mom in my group bought a second because her daughter danced to the songs. Fair warning: it’s loud, and parents say there’s no volume switch.

Wheely Bug ride-on for 1 year olds

Wheely Bug

Best for: ages 1 to 3

A ride-on bug on caster wheels that works indoors, even on carpet. Several parents said theirs was a first birthday gift that was still being ridden years later. Get the small size for a one year old.

Baby balance bike for 1 year olds

Baby Balance Bike

Best for: ages 12 months to 2

A four-wheel balance bike sized for one year olds. Two moms in my group said their kids loved it and still ride it, and it’s an easy step before a scooter.

New and Noteworthy Toys for 1 Year Olds in 2026

These are newer releases and 2026 award picks for babies and toddlers. We haven’t tried them, but they’re the ones I’d look at if I were shopping for a one year old this year. (Fat Brain’s PlayTab won 2026 Infant/Toddler Toy of the Year, too.)

Micro Mini Rock and Go LED rocker and scooter

Micro Mini Rock & Go LED

Best for: ages 12 months to 6

Our Micro Mini scooters are some of the best money we’ve spent on toys, so this one caught my eye. It starts as a rocker, turns into a ride-on with a seat, and ends up as a scooter, with light-up wheels that don’t need batteries. It was a 2026 Toy of the Year finalist. It’s about $180, which is a lot, but it’s meant to last until about age six. Here’s my full Micro Mini scooter review.

VTech Get Growing Tractor and Mower ride-on

VTech Get Growing Tractor & Mower

Best for: ages 1 to 3

A push mower for new walkers that converts into a ride-on tractor. It was a Toy of the Year finalist and a Good Housekeeping toy award winner, and it runs about $40 to $50.

Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn 4-in-1 activity table and easel

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn 4-in-1 Activity Table & Easel

Best for: ages 6 to 36 months

An activity table that tilts for babies who are still sitting, stands up for cruisers, and later becomes an easel. It was on Walmart’s top toys list and was a Toy of the Year finalist. It’s electronic, so it’s not my usual pick, but it’s one of the few that’s meant to last a couple of years.

My First Tonies figures for toddlers

My First Tonies

Best for: ages 1+

Soft, squishy Tonie figures made for one year olds, with first words and animal sounds. The Farm set (cow, pig and horse) is a sweet place to start. Tonies are more fun for little fingers than a card-based player, which is why I lean Toniebox for little kids. Parents are split on whether one is too young, so I’d save this for a later one year old. One family in my group is giving the Toniebox and asking relatives to add figures, which is a smart way to split a gift.

Heirloom First Birthday Gifts (and Traditions to Repeat Every Year)

Some of the sweetest ideas I came across weren’t toys at all. They were gifts that start a tradition on the first birthday and get added to every year after. For a little girl, it’s easy (a new charm or a small piece of jewelry each year). Moms of boys said they feel stuck, so here are the ideas I loved:

  • An engraved silver cup on the first birthday, which becomes a keepsake on a shelf.
  • An initialed wallet with cash added every birthday. One family tucks a $2 bill in each year, a tradition from their own childhood.
  • An engraved pocket watch. A few moms fell in love with this one, inspired by a family pocket watch that was passed down and worn at a wedding.
  • Jewelry that grows with them. For girls, a charm each year. For boys, a name bracelet now, then a chain or a watch later.
  • A book every birthday with a note written inside the cover, so they have a shelf of them by the time they can read.
  • A letter every birthday, sealed and saved to open at 18.
  • A Christmas ornament every year that tells the story of that year.

What I Don’t Buy for 1 Year Olds

Not everything that’s popular at this age is worth buying. Here’s what I skip:

  • Water beads and small magnets. They’re a serious hazard if swallowed, and one year olds put everything in their mouths.
  • Most electronic toys. A lot of them are overstimulating for one year olds (and for me), and they tend to capture attention with lights and sounds instead of inviting real play. There are a couple of exceptions above, but they’re the exception.
  • Single-use toys. If there’s only one right way to play with something, I’m less likely to buy it.
  • Squirt toys with a hole in the bottom. Water gets in, never fully gets out, and mold grows where you can’t see it.

Conclusion: What Would I Actually Give a 1 Year Old?

If I could only pick one, it would be the Lovevery Block Set. It works at twelve months, it works at two, and it’s still in our playroom. If the family already has blocks, a mini stroller or a pop-up tent and tunnel will get used every day, and stacking cups are the best small gift there is.

If you’re shopping for Christmas, pair one bigger gift with a couple of small ones from this list, and you’ll find ideas for the day itself in my list of things to do for baby’s first Christmas. Shopping for a sibling, too? My best toys for 2 year olds picks up where this list leaves off, followed by my best gifts for 3 year olds and best gifts for 5 year olds.

50 best gifts for 1 year olds from a mom of 4

Gifts for 1 Year Olds FAQ

What are the best gifts for 1 year olds?

Open-ended toys they’ll use for a year or more: a block set like the Lovevery Block Set, stacking cups, a push toy like the VTech Sit-to-Stand walker or a Cozy Coupe, a water table, and a few good board books. For a bigger gift, a Nugget or a kid-size chair gets used for years.

What do 1 year olds play with the most?

In our house it was always the simple things: stacking cups, Hide & Squeak Eggs, anything they could push (the VTech walker most of all), and blocks they could dump out and refill.

What is a good educational toy for a 1 year old?

Toys that teach cause and effect, stacking and sorting. A block set with a shape sorter, stacking cups and chunky animals they can balance all build fine motor skills without screens or batteries.

What are good gifts for a 1 year old boy or girl?

At one, the best gifts are the same for boys and girls. My sons and my daughters all loved the mini stroller and the push car, so shop for the child’s stage instead of the aisle.

How many toys does a 1 year old need?

Fewer than you’d think. A few open-ended toys rotated in and out will keep a one year old busier than a full playroom.

What is a good keepsake gift for a first birthday?

An engraved silver cup, a book with a handwritten note, or a gift you add to every year, like a charm, a letter or a wallet with a $2 bill tucked inside.

What toys should you avoid for a 1 year old?
