A Cloudy Beach Day: Corona Del Mar

Today I’m sharing a few pictures from a cloudy evening at the beach here in Orange County.

One thing that has surprised me about California is how cool and cloudy the coast can be.

We live a little less than half an hour from the beach but it is almost always ten degrees colder when we get to the shore. Usually the clouds burn off by early afternoon but on this evening when friends were visiting from out of town, a storm was rolling in.

Did it stop the kids from playing in the water? Of course not.

Adults caught up over Mendocino Farms (my favorite), layering on every extra piece of clothing we had, while the kids jumped in the waves and built in the sand. I love that this little friendship that started on scooters in Boston continues 3000 miles away.

Clouds might not make for ideal beach conditions, but they create dreamy consistent lighting for pictures – so here are a couple:

outfit details:

  • white knit cardigan (an Amazon favorite – I have this in 3 colors and there are so many other great ones right now)
  • denim button down: old Madewell (very similar here
  • red romper: Shein (comes in a million colors and is $7 – a great swim cover-up)
  • Westley’s grey New York Sweatshirt (this one is actually Lincoln’s but Westley has the matching one in a smaller size):  J Crew – the grey is sold out but the Navy is in stock here
