Amazon The Drop Trench Coat Review
Today we’re talking all about this fantastic trench coat from Amazon’s The Drop. Looking for a review of The Drop? Keep reading for all the details. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.
The Hunt for a Great Trench Coat
I have been on the hunt for a really great trench coat for years. I have a great one from ten years ago that is really starting to show some wear and it needs to be replaced.
So far I’ve tried on the Burberry trench at Nordstrom, ordered a Mackage trench (and then returned it), and tried a few from Chicwish in the $50-$100 price range. I also ordered another option from Amazon last year and was disappointed.
What I look for in a trench coat:
I have been on the hunt for something that fits really well (I am a slim to average build at 5’4″) and something that drapes nicely. I am not looking for something that is adding substantial warmth or bulk. It matters to me that the fabric falls nicely and is fully lined.
What is Amazon’s The Drop? How does The Drop work?
Amazon has been really investing in their fashion vertical and The Drop is their foray into trendy, influencer-driven styles. They have a permanent collection called “Staples by The Drop” and then they have capsules designed in collaboration with influencers. These capsules are only available to shop for 30 hours and ship 2-3 weeks after purchasing. The staples are available all the time and ship with regular prime shipping.
Amazon The Drop Trench Coat Review
First impressions of the Amazon Trench Coat:
I ordered the Noa Trench Coat from Amazon’s The Drop in the color “hummus.” I liked the medium weight and light color of the trench right out of the bag.
Fit:
I find things from The Drop run slightly large and I generally size down. I didn’t size down with this jacket and ordered my usual size (in part because I wanted to be able to wear it over a sweater and in part because I’m currently pregnant and what even is a regular size when you’re growing a human and the first year afterwards?).
In general, order your regular size if you want a looser fit and size down if you want a more true to size fit. For this jacket, if you’re just planning to wear it over shirts, size down but if you want to layer it over sweaters, go with your regular size.
Quality
The material on this is a medium weight cotton/ nylon blend. It has a removable tie and functional pockets.
What sealed the deal for me was how the fabric drapes and falls. It isn’t incredibly stiff and wears really beautifully. I would happily pay twice the price for a jacket like this and have already ordered it in another color (the verdict is still out on if I’m a black trench coat kind of girl).
Note: It could use a good steam right out of the package (this is the hand-held steamer I use and love).
Also worth noting: I wore this to a conference in LA last month and had multiple women inquire about my jacket. One of them pulled up the Amazon app and ordered it on the spot.
When to wear the Noa Trench from Amazon’s The Drop:
I have worn this countless times in the last two months of owning it. Here are a few ways I’ve styled it (while pregnant):
- Over leggings and a cream sweater with sneakers
- Over a bodycon dress and pumps
- With white jeans and a gingham blouse with flats
- Over black joggers and a tee shirt (it really elevates any look)
This is such a versatile piece that works for multiple seasons and multiple settings. I love a good trench for travel because it goes with everything. If you’re going to have one trench, this color, length and style is such a classic choice.
Conclusion:
I couldn’t be happier with this jacket.
If you’re looking for a great closet staple, move the Amazon The Drop trench coat to the top of your list.
update: I love this so much I now also own it in black (but reach for the hummus more often). They’ve added a few other colors recently including this pastel yellow and a brown.
