Flowers We Actually Want for Valentines

Nothing against a last-minute grocery store bouquet (we love a good Trader Joe’s tulip moment), but what if this year’s Valentine’s bouquet lasted forever?

What if, instead of wilting in a week, it became a piece of your home—something you could admire year after year? Maybe sitting on your nightstand? Tucked away into the first drawers of your vanity? Hanging in a small corner of your home?

Enter: the original art bouquet. A little more forethought? Sure. But isn’t that kind of the point? Instead of a dozen roses that fade too soon, let’s talk about nine stunning floral paintings that capture the beauty of a bouquet in a way that actually lasts.

Hand painted originals

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite original art on the internet right now. The best part? There’s something for everyone. Whether your budget is one nice dinner out or the jewelry-store-level splurge, original art comes in all price points. And unlike cut flowers, these aren’t something you can grab on your way home—so if you’re sending hints, do it now (text him this link; I won’t judge). Bonus points if he adds a handwritten note on the back, because imagine how special it would be to see those words decades from now. A little love letter, hidden behind a painting, waiting to be rediscovered? That’s Valentine’s magic.

And just picture it—years from now, you’re passing this down to your daughter, telling her about the time her dad picked out an actual painting instead of gas station roses. She’ll roll her eyes, but secretly, she’ll think it’s the most romantic thing ever. A Valentine’s bouquet that outlives the holiday, the year, and maybe even the generation? I’m swooning already 🙂

The Flowers We Really Want for Valentines:

Some of these artists I have shopped from before, but I have scoured Instagram, etsy, ebay, and facebook marketplace to find gorgeous originals if you aren’t shopping at galleries (yet ;).

Mini Custom Peonies ($39)

A modern take on a bouquet, this little one is playful while still obviously floral. This would work just as well in a kitchen as it would in a living or bedroom.

Available on Etsy.

5″ x 8″

Moody Bouquet ($169)

I can’t get over the colors in this one! The artist is Turkish so shipping might take a second but there’s a possibility it will be delivered by v-day.

8″ x 8″

Mini Custom Peonies ($100)

I had to include this artist I found on Etsy even though this one won’t quite be ready in time for Valentines. She does hand painted custom pieces (and you have to wait 2 weeks for them to dry before they ship. But how gorgeous is this color palette?

6″ x 6″

Dutchc Still Life ($545)

A stunning antique Dutch still life oil painting of white & red flowers in a off white vase in front of a atmospheric moody background.

Oil on linnen. Circa: 1920s. Signed.

Measurements: 25 x 30.5 centimeters.

Hand Painted Mini Bouquet ($38)

How sweet is this mini bouquet? These are hand painted to order so you can likely request specific colors or flowers (a wedding bouquet replica?).

4.3″ x 4.3″

Belgian Still Life ($1300)

A breathtaking 19th century Belgian still life oil painting of beautiful pink roses on a romantic grey pilar in front of a dark and moody background. The painting is surrounded by an intricate golden frame. If it were in the budget, this must be my favorite of the lot.

Oil on linen. Circa: 1870s. Signed: J. Robie. (Signature is unconfirmed).

Measurements: 37 x 42 centimeters.

White Roses ($237)

I had to include this artist I found on Etsy even though this one won’t quite be ready in time for Valentines. She does hand painted custom pieces (and you have to wait 2 weeks for them to dry before they ship. But how gorgeous is this color palette?

5″ x 7″ (not including frame)

French Florals ($230)

This is by a french artist I fell in love with on Instagram last year. She has a full collection of available mini florals.

5″ x 5″

Floral Still Life at Auction ( current bid $27)

This still life is moody and romantic. It would be beautiful in a dining space or a more personal bedroom.

I found this one on Auction Ninja, one of my favorite places online to find antiques/originals at bargain prices. You have to check on shipping costs to you (they are always higher than I think they’ll be).

Happy Daisies ($100)

If you want to steer away from pinks, this one is cheerful and darling. Plus, how beautiful is this frame?

4″ x 4″

Whimsical Watercolor ($65)

I have a piece from Breanna Rothwell in my home and I love her use of colors (they’re vibrant but not bright or overpowering).

This bouquet of irises and peonies would be beautiful framed in a vintage wooden frame or a simple gold one.

10″ x 14″

Antique Dutch Still Life ($399)

A beautiful, moody, antique Dutch still life oil painting of yellow and purple flowers in a vase. This has depth and gravitas while still being feminine and beautiful.

Oil on linen. Circa: 1920s. Signed: H. Schallenberg (1883-1981). A Dutch listed artist known for his floral still lives.

Measurements: 25.5 x 36 centimeters.

This charming original oil painting features a vibrant bouquet of pink peonies, rendered in an impasto style that adds texture and depth. The lively colors and expressive brushstrokes bring a sense of freshness and joy, making it a perfect addition to brighten any room.
