Ultimate Chip Showdown

Have you tried popchips before? They’re a family of potato, tortilla, and veggie chips popped crispy (yes, popped!). They remind me a lot of flavored rice crackers (which I love) mixed with a good chip. They’re light, airy, and packed full of flavor (which is usually a good thing….keep reading for more). We’ve been having fun taste testing quite a few of their flavors (I have yet to find the Cinnnamon Sugar in stores that people were raving about) and are excited to share with you our very favorite. We decided to have a little chip showdown, a flavor contest if you will….scroll through to find out which one was our favorite:
^^Ben participated in the sampling but ultimately the verdict of each competition was mine šŸ™‚

Meet the contestants:

There are many, many flavors of popchips, but for this little showdown we decided to sample the potato varieties. I included the Katy Perry bag in the picture because what, she has a bag of chips? Please don’t hold this against popchips, please. We also tried the bbq and the sea salt vinegar (the verdict was split between the two …our friends liked the sea salt better and I liked the bbq), but didn’t include these because they weren’t potato.
Salt & Pepper, Sour Cream & Onion, Cheddar & Sour Cream, Sweet Potato

Round 1: Sweet Potato vs Sour Cream & Onion

^^The sweet potato is a delicious, simple, and very mild chip. It would be great with dips or when you’re drinking something with lots of flavor. However, compared to the flavor packed Sour Cream & Onion, it seemed bland. Verdict: Round one winner is Sour Cream & Onion

Round 2: Cheddar & Sour Cream vs Salt & Pepper

^^The Cheddar & Sour Cream were my least favorite flavor. Needless to say, the delicious Salt & Pepper chips were the winner. Their flavor is strong but not overpowering. These would also be great for dips.

The Final Round: Slat & Pepper vs Sour Cream & Onion

^^This was a tough one because really, they’re both delicious (better than the BBQ and the Sea Salt & Vinegar we tried earlier this week). I’d say the Sour Cream & Onion are better by themselves but if I were serving the chips with other flavors, with a dip, or while drinking lemonade, I’d opt for the Salt & Pepper.

And the winner is….

Sour Cream & Onion!

I have the rest of these packed for a road trip in the morning and you can bet they’ll be coming with us on climbing trips later this month. I’m always excited to discover new lighter snack options – so if you have any, please let me know! This girl gets hungry every three hours and sometimes snacks are the only thing that get me through.

And just because we like taking pictures with chips (and because I’m really liking Ben’s red and mint combo), here are a few more pictures:

  1. Thank you for a great post! We as well had a taste test showdown and my favorite was the sour cream and onion!

  2. haha, this is so fun. pop chips are such a fun snack! esp after exercising.

  3. Have you ever tried popcorners? You can get them a lot of times at Sheetz, and they are an excellent, light snack as well! One of my campers' families created the snack for families struggling to find gluten-free snack šŸ™‚

  4. Mm, now I'm hungry. I love rice cakes & I'm also a big fan of lighter chips (Baked Laaaay's!) so these seem amazing. šŸ™‚ I'll have to grab a bag of the Sour Cream & Onion now!
