Hi friends! I am so happy to have one room in our apartment that I LOVE totally finished and ready to share with you: our shared tropical nursery!

The kids are sharing a room in our new apartment and it’s right off the kitchen and living room. I really wanted the space to be a bright and happy room for play but still a calming space for sleep. I wanted it to be kid friendly but it was important to me that when the door was open it still visually worked with the rest of our home. I was looking for a cohesive design, recommendations for a few key pieces, and to incorporate a crib and rug we already had a loved.

I found Modsy on Instagram and was thrilled to work with them on this tropical nursery project. Having someone tell you everything you need to design and finish a room is wonderful.

I talked all about my experience working with Modsy before, but essentially I worked with a designer to come up with mock-ups for our shared tropical nursery space. I gave her a pinterest board of inspiration images, some terrible iphone pictures and measurements of the room, a list of pieces we already owned, and a budget. She came back with beautiful mock-ups and a list of pieces to purchase. I had a few tweaks (I wanted to spend less on a lamp and I wanted to switch out one of the art pieces she recommended). And then we just ordered the pieces and put the tropical nursery room together like it was in Modsy’s mock-ups. Super easy.

I LOVED the idea of being able to see furniture in my space before I purchased it. After my designer made recommendations for our tropical nursery, I could actually see the way her pieces would look in my space. And then I could swap them out to other items and compare before making a decision.

I really love the bright pops in the giraffe pillow and the toucan print but how all the greens and natural elements tie together in the rope, the palm prints, and the natural wood. Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight

^We turn Lincoln’s bed against the wall a lot of the time so that Adelaide is less likely to fall off of it when she inevitably crawls up on it. What sold me on this toddler bed is that it works well as a couch in this space. I can sit on it and read stories with the kids. Lincoln can play on it during the day. And visually, it takes up SO much less space than his big dark crib. I was initially considering this toddler bed by Oeuf because you can remove the divider to really make it a daybed, but I loved this one my designer picked out at a better price point. Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight

^Shelf styling is not my strong suit so I loved that I got easy ideas on what to do with the shelves up there (and that I can switch stuff out as I want to). Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight

^This table is one of my other favorite purchases for the room. The table was initially supposed to be white and not green but the white was sold out and not estimated to be restocked ’till next year (I just checked and it’s restocked now :/). Now that the room is all put together though, I really love the green. Modsy made it super easy for me to swap the white out for the green and look at other options when I realized I didn’t want to wait forever for a restock. Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight

^Those floor pillows are washable, just like the amazing palm rug and shoe basket from Lorena Canals in this room. I don’t know how I’d have a non-washable rug in a heavily trafficked kids space and have been THRILLED with these pieces. We have a small apartment washing machine and it still fits this large rug (although it does take multiple dry cycles on low to get it actually dry). Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight

^How fun are these assorted pegs from the Container Store? This is a detail I wouldn’t have found on my own that I really love thanks to Modsy. It keeps up with the white and natural wood trend in the room while being a bit playful with the assorted sizes. We hung them at a kid friendly height so my kids can hang up their own coats and bags and it has already made Lincoln love being helpful. Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight

^Washable shoe bin that actually goes in the closet because if I left it there all the time Adelaide would spend ALL her time trying on shoes over and over again. Their door is just steps from the front door of our apartment so having a drop zone that keeps their stuff contained in their room so close to our entrance is awesome. Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight

^This lamp was part of Lincoln’s nautical nursery and I love how our designer was able to incorporate it here! The ceramic giraffe was part of Adelaide’s mid-century modern nursery (full reveal here). Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight

^Promptly baby journals (that usually go under the rhino on the circle shelf) are THE most darling baby books. And darling isn’t even the right word – they’re classic and elegant and helpful and awesome. We love ours. And I can’t wait to give the completed journals to my kids when they turn 18 (after I’ve had photocopied every page for posterity). Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight

^Adelaide is still a bit too short for these stools and needs help to get up on them but in a few months they will be perfect for both kids. And a note about the table – it’s much heavier and sturdier than I would have anticipated. It’s also coated and easy to wipe down.

And for reference – here are the final mock-up tropical nusery renders from Modsy! Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight Tropical Nursery Reveal by Boston style blogger Elisabeth McKnight
