A humbling experience from this weekend:
Ben got a letter from the Political Science department at BYU. Ben has taken one class in poli sci. I’ve taken about twelve. This letter asked him to consider the political science major because of his excellent performance in the course. Turns out Ben is not only good at chemical engineering – the political science department wants him too. (I’m taking solace in the fact that I haven’t ever taken that specific professor, and I”m already declared an International Relations major -which is half poli sci – so they wouldn’t have to ask me to consider the major…..) Regardless, it was humbling.
Speaking of Ben, HE GRADUATED! Yes, while I was galavanting off with two of the world’s best teenage girls, Ben took his last final and waved goodbye to college (figuratively only I”m sure). I am so grateful we got to share this part of our lives together. Sometimes I’ll be telling Ben a story and I really wish he could just get it, that he knew me in high school or middle school, or back when I was five. I wan’t him to know what I was like, what my life was like, what my family was like. But this girl didn’t settle down in the States until this boy was starting high school and even then, dating someone 3 years older than you in middle school, who lives 3000 miles away and you’ve never met doesn’t work too well. But, I am so glad we have college. I am so happy that 20 years from now when we reminisce about our college years, it is something we can do together.
