Refinishing an Old Teapot: Before and After

Remember that girls’ night tea party themed manicure evening we had over here two weeks ago? Well the decor was all centered around this teapot. We weren’t actually sipping tea (we savored this punch instead) so the teapot was strictly decorative. I found this little gem hidden away in a local thrift store and decided to get crafty.
After a little research I went with Martha Stewart Metallic Opaque Glass Paint in Gold that is supposed work well for ceramics as well. I didn’t sand down the pot as directed and so the first coat didn’t go on very well. But, I let it dry for an hour and applied another few coats and those went on much better. Sanding would give the paint something to adhere to but I didn’t mind giving it a couple of coats. I just need to bake the pot and then I’ll be able to serve some herbal tea out of it šŸ™‚
Since then I’ve done the same thing to a vase and an old spoon and I love the way they’ve all come out! I think I’d call this first crafting attempt a success.

P.S. Last night my talented friend Emily-Jane took some anniversary pictures for me and Ben and I’ll be sharing some of the sneak peeks she sent me on instagram throughout the day (@bellatheblog)! Its probably a good thing she’s headed to BYU this fall or else I’d be tempted to hire her on a weekly basis šŸ™‚
