One Year Wedding Anniversary!
One year ago we were sealed for time, and for all eternity, as a family.
One year ago we also got to share that moment, and the whole day, with so many people we love.
So a year ago today was our wedding, a beautiful ceremony, a fantastic party – and what marked the start of a marriage. It was the start of a marriage that so many cautioned against. It began with roommates who didn’t think we’d last more than two weeks as a dating couple. It continued to friends back east who couldn’t fathom why anyone would want to “settle down” ate age twenty. It stretched all the way to my dentist, who had the audacity to lecture me on marriage and the proper timing of children.
They cautioned against their misconceptions and mistakes. They worried I’d “throw my life away.” And you know, I’m grateful that I have so many people in my life looking out for me. I’m also grateful that I chose to marry Ben on August 6, 2011 – when I was twenty years old.
After one year of marriage, I can tell you it certainly isn’t “throwing my life away” or growing up to fast. Marriage means having my best friend there for me, totally invested, and always supportive. It means talking late into the night and cuddling too late in the morning. It means a constant encouragement to be better and a new perspective on the things that matter. It means getting over myself when I’d rather not – because there is no place for selfishness in marriage. Its means trying, and failing, but continuing to try anyway. It means a happiness I didn’t imagine and a love that would make Cinderella jealous. It means forever, always, no matter what.
So today we celebrate marriage, but we also remember the party of a lifetime –

And I totally agree with you about how there is no room for selfishness in a marriage. I never thought of myself as a selfish person… until I got married. Now I see how selfish I can be every day! Sigh… Lord, help me. 🙂
