Usually I share more kid-friendly (read: life friendly) outfits but today I have a fun little date night look I wore last weekend when Ben and I left the house without kids, together, for the first time in far too long. We’ve been seeing big sleeves, whether they’re pleated, bell shaped, or flared, everywhere for the last few seasons and I think I like the trend for spring even better than in fall and winter. See, the issue with big bell sleeved blouses in the colder months are the long sleeves end up with so much fabric. And they get in your kid’s macaroni and cheese when you’re spoon feeding (and your own dinner when you’re out)And you can’t roll your sleeves up at all. And I can’t tell you the last time I wore a shirt and didn’t put the sleeves up for cuff them above my wrists.
So, I’m a huge fan of the pleated sleeves on this top that let you have fun with the trend without getting in your way. Plus, the little ribbon detailing is quite cute. The shirt does run a little short so if you have a long torso, you should only plan on wearing it tucked into high waisted jeans or a pencil skirt (I’m wearing a medium, for reference). And no matter how long your torso is, stick to skinny or straight legged pants to balance out the pleats and flare of the blouse.
Have you tried the bell sleeved trend? What do you think?
P.S. It’s worth noting that these sleeves were perfectly pressed before I put on a coat. Twenty minutes later when I took the coat off, they were quite wrinkled. So I’d recommend this top for spring/summer wear when you don’t have to layer it underneath something.
