How many of you are committing to being in better shape in the new year? Not just me?

Maybe it’s a goal to lose weight. Maybe it’s a goal to exercise more. Maybe it’s to just feel better in your own skin.

This year I’m excited to keep going with regular exercise and really focus on what I’m eating. Did you know weight loss (or management) is partially exercise, but hugely impacted by what you eat? Of course you did, but for some reason the first thing I think about is exercise…when I should be prioritizing how I eat.

I spent most of last year thinking that “getting in shape” meant getting to the gym more often but with a crazy semester for Ben and a big (fun!) adjustment for the rest of us, I was not so great about being conscientious about what I put in my body. Most mornings I’d reach for a box of cereal and end up hungry again by 10 am, snacking on whatever I was getting out for the kids. Late nights mean even less self control so finding great snacking options and ways to kickstart my day are one of my top priorities.

Today I have an easy breakfast parfait recipe to help keep you on track with your goals for the new year.

These easy yogurt + fruit + protein parfait recipe is the perfect way to start your mornings (or indulge in a little mid-day snack when the kids are down for naps).

You have a good balance of dairy, fruit, and protein and for mornings when you’re running out the door, just grab the ZonePerfect Nutrition Bar and a handful of blueberries and you’re set.

For these easy parfait recipe I layered yogurt, fresh berries, and chopped up ZonePerfect Nutrition Bars. The bars are a great granola alternative because they have 14 grams of protein and come in so many delicious flavors.

For the yogurt, you can use a sweetened greek like the vanilla greek yogurt I used here for a little bit more protein, or you can swap it out for whatever your favorite yogurt is right now. Mixing up the yogurt is also an easy way to keep this recipe new and exciting, as you try to build healthier habits but still want some variety.

Another great way to add variety is switch up the flavor of ZonePerfect Nutrition Bars. I used the Fudge Graham flavor here, which is pretty tasty but ZonePerfect makes so many great flavors. I grabbed a couple in the granola bar aisle at Target when the kids and I were out last week and it was hard to narrow it down to a few boxes (find out where they sell them near you by clicking here).

The Strawberry Yogurt flavor would lend itself to this easily but don’t be afraid of a more ambitious pairing. How good would Cinnamon Roll or Dark Chocolate Almond be with a bit of fruit and yogurt? Check out all the different flavors here.

So tell me – what is your favorite quick breakfast? What do you like to eat when you have a big day ahead and need plenty of energy? Have you tried this parfait recipe yet? Let me know what you thin in the comments below!
