This year for Father’s Day we actually spent the morning with no kids at all. It was the tail end of a Cape Cod weekend with the rest of the interns at Ben’s summer office and we snuck away from the cape Saturday evening. Ben’s super early morning Sunday meetings got cancelled so we slept ’till almost 8, ate cereal for breakfast, and enjoyed three hours of church without toddlers to keep quiet. Afterwards we rushed up to New Hampshire to snuggle our babies and celebrate Father’s Day with the rest of my family (who had Lincoln and Adelaide for the weekend). I’ve said it 39029 times already but living close (1:03 minutes) to family is the best. After three years of “long-distance,” it’s hard to ever want to give this up. Even when we compare cost of living and I’m set to move south, Ben goes away for a few days and I just drive up to New Hampshire and recommit to staying close.
Father’s Day was Lincoln giving my dad jelly beans I’d picked up the night before and enthusiastically procliaming “Look what we got for you, Grandpa! ……..Can you share with me?”
It was also children being so happy to have their parents back. Ben sure is one loved dad.
