FAMILY DATE PROJECT VOL. 2: Rainy Hikes

Location: Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve, California

Length of Time: 2 hours

Price: free

Before we flew back from Ben’s parents in California after New Years we braved the light drizzle and took the babies for a little hike. We haven’t done this in Ohio regularly since Adelaide was born last summer but it used to be a favorite thing when Lincoln was still small enough to fit in our baby wrap. And maybe it’s because the high back in Ohio today was below freezing, but these pictures have me counting down the days ’till spring and regular family hikes.

Side note: If you’re in California the Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve in Silicon Valley is gorgeous. You can walk a mile or two up to the Deer Hollow Farm where they have a few different animals that would be so fun for kids (we went on a Monday so it was closed).

A few things I want to remember:

  • Lincoln wanting to jump in all the puddles (story of our life this year). He also wanted to go pet the deer.
  • These shoes gave me a blister (and its the 49039 time I’ve worn them so I’m at a loss) and I was wearing thin no-show socks. Ben took off one of his brand new thick wool socks I gave him for Christmas and let me put it on over my bleeding ankle for the second half of the hike.
  • The walk started off a little bit cold and Adelaide snuggled right into me for warmth. I’ll miss these days when I can’t wear her this close.
