Today we got our official move date and scheduled the packers (bless companies that move us and actually don’t let me pack a single box). Its bittersweet leaving Cincinnati, hopefully just for a few months, but I’m working on trying to be nothing but excited for this next short chapter.
One thing we didn’t do so well in our current place is furnish and decorate our second bedroom/office space. For the first few months it acted as a great place to store our unpacked boxes and while we eventually got a white desk and the boxes put away, it still isn’t quite as put together as I’d like. I used my very favorite home decor site, Pottery Barn, for some inspiration for our new space, and surprisingly, I loved so many of the pieces from their Dorm section!
side note: I moved to America with my family when I was eleven. We spent a few years renting while we built my parents dream house and I spent every month of those two years redecorating my virtual room using Pottery Barn Teen. In middle and high school I would save up my money for new sheet sets and duvet covers (who needs new clothes when you have the best decorated space to wear pajamas in, right?). Some of the PB Teen pieces I collected over the years came with me to college and up until we got married, my bedding was always PB Teen. Now I find myself drooling over the things in the Pottery Barn catalogue but can still find a handful of pieces from the Teen section that I’d decorate our shared space with.
I really love the crisp and bright combo of white and navy. Its a classic color combo and the polka dots add some character without being too feminine. It would be perfect for our shared office space that doubles as a guest room when family and friends come into town. Now if only our apartment had that much natural light!

SAVINGS TIP: No budget for a full dorm/guest room makeover? Pick a few key accent pieces to change the feel of the room. Skip the expensive bedding and add the cute throws to a plain bedspread. Or, add a big statement with curtains. Don’t feel like you need to buy every piece to get a new look.
A big thanks to Pottery Barn Dorm for sponsoring this post! Its always a treat to work with brands I have loved and shopped with for years and years.
P.S. I shared a little sneak peek of a fun shoot with Saks on Instagram today – I can’t wait to get the rest of the pictures back!
