Cozy Layers + Styling Booties

We made it home to Ohio! California was beautiful and while there is little more than I love being back in New England in the fall, there is something almost magical about being back together as a family of three and sleeping in my own bed. Sorry things have been a tad slow over here but I have so much content I’m excited to share over the next few weeks and with no big trips planned ’till Christmas, you can expect new posts 4 times a week.

Today I have a cozy fall outfit for you, complete with the most comfortable of sweaters and the most darling of booties. In New Hampshire for the last two weeks I lived in some variation of this outfit: high rise dark skinnies + comfy knit + booties. I love the little cut these ones have in the front of the boot that helps either elongate the leg or give a peek of color from your socks (depending on what you wear them with).

A few tips for styling booties:

  1. Stick with the cuff: Especially if your pant is a bit looser, cuff them so they hit about half an inch from the top of your shoe. If you’re wearing tight fitting skinnies, you can leave them tucked into the shoe or decide to cuff them like I did here.
  2. Branch out to skirts: Booties are infinitely more practical than ballet flats or pumps during the colder months. I love them with midi skirts/dresses or pencil skirts.
  3. Keep it monochrome: If you’re looking to elongate your legs, pair your booties with a similar colored tight (or legging).

P.S. I ordered a few other booties from Famous Footwear for this fall/winter and this pair is my very favorite. While I like the look of the ones I’m wearing in this post best, these have been my go-to for weeks and are the most comfortable shoes I’ve worn somewhere other than the gym in years. You’ll see them in posts for the next couple of months but while we were on the subject of booties, I thought it was worth mentioning.
I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

  1. Great tips! I totally agree with the cuff- I always feel awkward trying to put my jeans over or tucked into booties so cuffing is perfect!

  2. Helpful tips. Did you put highlights in your hair?. Looking gorgeous.

  3. I need it to cool down in Atlanta so I can wear some sweaters and boots!

  4. I have those same Dr. Scholls boots because you had an Instagram post where you were wearing them and they are seriously the most comfortable boots I have ever worn!
