These days in Findlay, we’ve been living for the weekends. First it was a trip to Chicago, then it was a long fourth of July weekend, and most recently, it was a needed weekend back in Cincinnati. Its not that we aren’t incredibly grateful for Ben’s new job… this place just isn’t quite home yet. So with another long weekend this weekend we decided to head some place that was.
The camera stayed hidden for most of the weekend and so I don’t great pictures of Friday night’s sand volleyball shenanigans or the ensuing long hours of games. There aren’t any shots of the boys playing golf or rock climbing on Saturday and there’s no proof of my endless cuddles with Casey’s babies (almost two can still count as a baby right?). There might not be any photos of our quick girls escape to the nail salon but I have cute coral toes to prove it (we get pedicures for the massages and the foot care… it matters very little if they actually paint the nails afterward).
What I did manage to take some pictures of was our dinner date on Saturday night. Geoffrey turned 29 on Monday so we invited ourselves along to his dinner of choice, Boi Na Braza in downtown Cincinnati. There’s no way we girls got our money’s worth but I think the boys made up for it. Have you ever eaten at a Brazilian Steakhouse? There’s a huge salad bar (with much more than salad) and then all night servers come around with different cuts of meat that they’ll put right onto your plate. My baby bump grew a few sizes, at least.
On another note: I’ve found the ultimate summer dress. I originally packed this to wear over my suit to the pool but when ‘baby’ decided it was better for me to stay in and nap (read: eat lots of things slowly and hope for the best), I ended up throwing it on for pedicures before dinner. When we got home, Ben’s surprise and genuine compliment made the decision to keep it on for dinner (although I think he was just surprised to see me with brushed hair and make up…this first trimester has lowered expectations dramatically around here 🙂
The super light weight and soft fabric makes this dress great for protecting your skin from the sun while still surviving the summer heat (and it has thumb holes!). Its also quite stretchy which made it very accommodating to the hours of eating that went on Saturday night 🙂
^And I just liked this shot of Casey I snapped as we were walking to the restaurant. This girl has been such a help these past few months … and even now when she’s living two and half hours away. I’m grateful for friends I can call up last minute and invite ourselves down for the weekend who will then proceed to take care of me and remind me (through conversation and being an example of the best mom) that every little bit of this is worth it.
Here’s to more weekend getaways and maybe to making Findlay feel a little more like home.
P.S. If you’re into babies and kids and stuff (I am these days ;), you can fall in love with Casey’s littles on her blog here. They’re even cuter in person. And Maddie really does smile like that all the time.
