Cinnamon Sugar Candied Nuts

Last night was our annual church women’s holiday party and I was asked to come up with a few gift options you can create in the kitchen. I had lots of fun putting together some recipes and finding cute ways to package each of them. Giving something from the kitchen is the perfect way to personalize a holiday gift and works for everything from a simple teachers or hostess gift to a gift basket for loved ones.
First up in this edible gifts series is cinnamon-sugar candied nuts. The one problem with these is getting them to last long enough to give away. They’re incredibly easy to make, and even easier to package up for gift giving.
What You’ll Need:
  • 3 C assorted raw nuts (I used half almonds and half walnuts)
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1/2 C brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
What You’ll Do:
  • Whisk egg white, water, and vanilla until frothy (1 – 2 minutes).
  • Mix sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon in another bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, mix egg white mixture with nuts. Stir until completely combined.
  • Add sugar mixture to nuts and egg white mixture. Stir until completely combined.
  • Spread nuts evenly over parchment paper on a jelly roll pan.
  • Bake at 325 for twenty minutes. After ten minutes, stir the nuts on the pan. Let cool before serving. **Even if they don’t look done after 20 minutes, take them out, the sugar mixture hardens and you don’t want to burn it.
For the Packaging:
  • You can pick up faux mason jars at a dollar store.
  • Add a piece of fabric (I cut up fat corners on sale for $1.50 at a fabric store which make enough for a few).
  • Tie a little twine around the lid.
  • Attach a little tag. You could use a gift tag going through the twine or pick up these little labels (dollar section at target) to stick directly on the jars.
  • Voila! Add a sweet note and you’re ready for some personalized gifting.
