How to Celebrate National Ice Cream Month

Today I’m sharing ways to celebrate National Ice Cream Month (July!)

When is National Ice Cream Month?

How is it already July? Halfway through 2018 already.

It seems like every other day is “national something day” these days. National flamingo day. National sibling day. National picnic day.

But with something as good as ice cream, you need a full month to celebrate. There’s also a specific National Ice Cream Day so if you’re only looking to celebrate once, mark July 15 on your calendars.

Ice Cream Rewards

It’s also the perfect time to stock up on your family’s favorite Ice Cream brands. From now until the end of September, Shaws (and Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Jewel-Osco, and ACME), when you spend $20 on participating Unilever Ice Cream brands, you’ll get a $5 digital reward of your choice. You can choose between a Visa rewards virtual gift card or a fandangoNOW reward. Just take a picture of your receipt and upload it to IceCreamRewards.com to receive your $5 reward!

Each week there will be one person winning a FULL YEAR OF ICE CREAM!

Tonight we celebrated the start of ice cream month (a full day early – but it was 95 degrees so we just had to). Lincoln and Adelaide each just get one tiny scoop of ice cream and all the sprinkles and they get SO excited.

It was simple, but you can bet we’re adding

How to celebrate national ice cream month

1. Ice cream eating contest

This can be exactly what you’re thinking, the winner is whoever eats the most ice cream, or you can mix it up and have the winner go to whoever comes up with the best flavor combo. Just pick up a few of your favorite flavors at Shaw’s and let people mix and match in their bowls. The winner can go home with their own pack of Magnum Ice Cream Sandwiches.

2. Build your own sundae bar

There is nothing quite like a great ice cream bar. It doesn’t have to be intense. Last week a dinner party we went to ended with five flavors of gelato set our with chocolate sauce and mini chocolate chips. Simple and delicious.

But you can also go all out. Grab the

3. Ice cream floats

Don’t just stick with ice cream. Grab your favorite sodas and have fun adding in scoops of ice cream. If you’re adventurous, go beyond the basic vanilla and make your own delicious combos. Try a sherbet in a fruity soda or mix in butter pecan to your favorite root beer.

4. Ice cream trivia

The ice cream cone originated at the St. Louis World Fair in 1904 and 9 percent of all the milk produced in the United States is used to make ice cream. Find more ice cream trivia facts here.

5. Throw an ice cream party

All of these ways of celebrating could be turned into a party but another easy idea is just to invite friends over and have them each bring their favorite ice cream flavor. You’ll get to sample everyone’s favorites and as the hostess, you’re just in charge of serving utensils.

  • ice cream party tip #1: trade in your regular cereal bowls for waffle bowls and avoid doing dishes after your guests leave.
  • ice cream party tip #2: pre-scoop ice cream into muffin tins for easy serving (see pictures here)

6.  make your own ice cream sandwiches

All you need is your favorite flavor of ice cream and this chocolate chip cookie recipe. If you, like me, prefer your cookies warm, skip the sandwiches altogether and turn it into a pizookie by just scooping the ice cream on top of the cookie and serving it like a cookie sundae.

7. Ice cream on waffles (or just ice cream with every meal for a day?)

Load up your favorite breakfast food with a few scoops of ice cream and go all out with toppings. Don’t hold back with chocolate + caramel sauce, whipped cream, and all the sprinkles you can find.
