Big lists of little things – and something I’m not telling you

Big things make me happy – the biggest thing is happening right now. I’ll tell you about it soon. I’m sorry if that’s cruel. Its a huge surprise. I haven’t been this grateful in awhile. Some things are worth sacrificing for. No, I am not pregnant. No, I am not moving. No, you might not think my news is nearly as exciting as I do. But for me these past few months, its been everything.

But even when I don’t have big things, I have little things.
So many little things.

The short prayer in the morning and quick kiss goodbye.
The snack on campus right before a final.
The heater running when I’m cold and he’s hot.
The canvas leaning against the wall, a photo of us.
The friends next door with their games and couches.
The little snowflakes I was missing.
The cookies that taste like home.
The hug after a long day.

Take the time to find joy in the little things. It’s easy to be happy when you have the big things, but sometimes you won’t have all of them. You’ll always have the little things.

What little things make you happy?
