the best face wash and makeup remover for busy moms
Last year when we packed up for two and a half weeks in Europe (with a 30-week baby bump and an almost toddler), I decided I couldn’t get by with the generic face wipes I like to use when I travel. As convenient as they were, almost three weeks was far too long to go without my standard skin care routine. So, I picked up a handful of those tiny travel sized containers and repacked my cleanser, my toner, my serum, my exfoliator, and my clay mask for travel. And it was great. And it was so obnoxious.
My skin was thrilled to not be struggling the whole trip but managing so many different bottles was a nightmare. It’s enough of a pain at home when I’m tired after a long day of child wrangling but to go through it all in someone else’s bathroom, usually with a sink but no counter? Not ideal.
Before I had Adelaide I went out and got some subpar face wipes because I knew I wouldn’t take the time to actually go through my skin care routine on 3 hours of sleep. My skin struggled big time, but something was better than nothing.
I’m starting to put together the basics for a similar (albeit shorter) trip coming up in a few weeks and I’m so excited to have discovered Olay Daily Facials Daily Clean 4-in-1 Water Activated Cleansing Cloths. At first, I thought they were just another brand of make-up removing wipes (it’s a similar packaging and application) but they’re about ten times better. Instead of only removing your make-up, Olay Daily Facials offers the 4- in- 1 benefits of a make-up remover scrub, toner, mask, and cleanser. The cleanser washes away dirt and makeup, the toner has an essential cleansing formula to tone your skin, the mask hydrates, and the scrub exfoliates. I do still use a good moisturizer afterwards but it cuts my face products down from 5 to 2! It means more space on my bathroom counter, more room in my travel bag, and a facial cleansing clothe wash I’ll actually bring with me to the gym.
The other big difference between Olay Daily Facials Daily Clean 4-in-1 Water Activated Cleansing Cloths and traditional makeup removing wipes I’ve tried is these cleansing towelettes are totally dry. You wet them with water, rub them gently to lather, and then cleanse your face (and they’re gentle enough they don’t bother my eyes). I tend to still rinse with a cloth and then add a few drops of moisturizer. Easy, right? Plus, it means they’re lighter for travel and you can easily throw the number you need in a ziplock bag.
Now I just need to find an all- in- one make-up product so I can skip the powder + bronzer + mascara + liner + shadow + lip color in my carryon. Although after using these for a week or so, I can probably cut down on a lot of my makeup altogether 😉
So I want to hear, what new beauty products have you discovered recently? What are your go to products when traveling? Anything you refuse to leave home without?
