A Reunion and a Farewell

Today I am driving the 18 hours home to this boy, and I can’t wait to be back in his arms.

I’m not one for over-attachedness (not a word? you get what I mean) or clinginess. I am a firm believer in becoming one with your spouse while maintaining your individuality. If that means I spend a weekend in Texas and Ben stays home, thats fine. Although, maybe its going to a wedding by yourself. Or maybe its sitting in the temple, listening to the same promises you made, and recommitting yourself. Or maybe its waking up and being a little confused on why your mom is sleeping next to you and not your husband. Because I’m seeing things a little different after this trip.

Ben is my world. There are lots of things I want in life: a masters degree, a good camera, a nice house, a successful blog. There are lots of things I want to be: a brilliant chef, a world traveller, a taker of beautiful photos, a high class business woman, and and an author. But, nothing is more important than our family. Nothing trumps my relationship with Ben or the little additions we’ll have at some point. Somethings will be given up for better things, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Growing up means learning to prioritize, and this person, this marriage, this family, is certainly my priority.

And speaking of priorities, the only thing that could put a damper on heading home is the next three days of econ tests, 30 page papers, 5 page papers, and presentations. Thursday I’m off to Chicago for friends and a competition – and so, to keep priorities in my life when there is so little time for anything – I’ll be gone for the next week or two. When Ben and I can spend an uninterrupted three hours together, I’ll be back. But until the school work is done and I get some Ben time in – adieu.
