A Little Presdient’s Day Fun

{via}

Last Monday we pretended it was a warm patriotic holiday and had a good old fashioned neighborhood american bbq. And by that I mean we invited the other two couples with funny Italian last names from our complex, put the boys in charge of freezing to death grilling the meat and the girls in charge of sitting inside and chatting everything else. It was lots of fun just to get to know our neighbors better (and only be in charge of part of a meal).

In honor or President’s day we played a little guessing game during dessert: “I read a quote from one of four presidents past and you guess who said it.”  It was a fun way to add a little patriotism to our evening and inspiring to remember some of the great men of our country’s past. Some of them were too good (and maybe surprising) not to share:

It is impossible to govern a nation without God and the bible. -George Washington

Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company. – George Washington

A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government. – Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government. – Thomas Jefferson

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. – Abraham Lincoln

Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them? – Abraham Lincoln

The three pictures I took:

Did you do anything to celebrate president’s day?
Who’s your favorite historic president?
Which quote did you like the best?

  2. Fun! So, I keep trying to add your blog to my Blog Lovin' and it can never find your blog. Even people who don't have profiles or haven't added their blogs on Blog Lovin' I've been able to find, so I'm frustrated that I can't add yours!

  3. I love this one: Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company. – George Washington So true! I had President's Day off of work so I spent the day catching up since everyone else had class, love your idea though!

  4. So out of the suggested posts boxes near the end of each post, two of them on this post were about us – one about us swimming in the pool, and one about our hike last summer. They both made me really want summer, and really want to be hanging out with you on a regular basis.

    I love you 🙂 This summer when I'm gloriously unbusy, let's do all those things.
