I’ve always loved Valentines day.
When I was little it was a special family dinner with presents.
In high school it was my first kiss and fresh flowers in my room.
It was fancy dinners and jewelry.
Freshman year it was dates and dances.
And then, it was Ben.
Our first Vday came just three weeks after we were “official” (seems like a silly thing – it had only been ben for weeks before that). We hadn’t said those three words, but things were moving fast. Ben planned an elaborate poetry scavenger hunt with roses and treats along the way. I baked and wrote notes and he got presents throughout the day.
Last year we were married and it was another scavenger hunt and the start of our “love book.”
This year will be more memories and more love (and this girl is excited).
But, more important than whatever we do, or eat, or say tonight, is the life we are building. I can’t wait to spend each day, valentines or not, loving, serving, and growing. Thanks for being my best friend, my cheerleader, my counselor, and my support. I love you, Ben, for who you are and who you are making me. Forever and Always.
