5 Ways to Take a Dress From Day to Night [affordable fashion]

Happy Sunday everyone – just dropping in with another summer style post with a functional day to evening transition sponsored by Collective Bias and Sears. Sometimes you’re going to be out and about all day (or maybe you just want to be sure the pieces you buy are versatile) but its easy to transition lots of fun summer pieces from a more causal afternoon to a dressier evening.
This navy high-low number from Sears has been added to this maxi as one of my two favorite dresses at the moment. I love the color, the soft fabric, and way I feel when I walk in it (think the elegance of a floor length gown meets the comfort of silky pjs). Oh and when a breeze hits it, its glorious. I’ve been experimenting with different looks so I get maximum use out of my new favorite wardrobe member.
Here are my few tips from taking a dress from Day to Night this summer:
1. Layers: By adding a jacket, blazer, sweater, or even a button up, you can make any dress more casual, more professional, or more “cute.” On the other hand, ditch the jacket, blazer, or sweater and you go straight from business to pleasure.
2. Shoes: Its true, you can get away with a cute pair of flats or a good pair of heels for day and night, but if you’re going to change something, I’d go for the shoes. They instantly change the feel of an outfit and can take a dress from “lunch with the girls” to “dinner with the man” in seconds.
3. Jewelry: This is the easiest accessory to change for your day to night look. Add some dangly earrings for a more dressy evening look or maybe replace the business watch with a nice bracelet. For this look I replaced my silver bracelets with pearls and added a pearl necklace.
4. Makeup: Keep a shadow, mascara, and lipstick in your purse and you can darken your eyes and add color to your lips for an easy transition. For evening, go bold with red, or add a nude glossy lip to complement a darker eye.
5. Hair: A simple up-do (think a bun, low side ponytail, or other) can instantly dress up a look I wear my hair down day and night so you won’t see a transition in these pictures, but its definitely something to keep in mind!
