3 Tips for Styling Sneakers + My Recent Buys

I’m feeling pretty great about my pregnancy timing. This far along with Lincoln I was no longer excited about buying maternity clothes, realizing I could only wear them for about two more months and my feet were just swollen enough to put a damper on buying any cute new shoes. Now though, the sneaker trend is in full force and given that the only thing I’m guaranteed to put on in the morning is gym clothes + workout shoes, it’s something I can get excited about.

The top three are my most recent shoe purchases (but after asking on Instagram and seeing the pink ones in person, they were a bit too ‘pepto bismal,’ as Ben put it, and are packed up to be returned). I love that sneakers can look cute with a pair of skinny jeans and a tee for running errands but are just as functional for long summer walks with Lincoln or gym workouts. Plus, what I really love, is that they help my feet hate the extra 30 pounds I’m carrying around right now a little bit less.

I’ve rounded up a few more of my favorites – the clean white addidas sneakers are popping up everywhere but I love the classic look in a bit more color (like those pink ones or the bright read stripe). I also love the suede sneaker not only because it’s darling but it will transition well to fall.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

A few tips for trying out the sneaker trend (other than just “wear your favorite sneakers because they’re more comfortable than anything else”):

1. Keep the rest of your outfit neutral. You’re making a statement with your choice of shoe so go for a more classic or neutral look on top. Think jeans, and a neutral sweater, leather jacket, or striped tee.

2. Play up the contrast. If you’re looking to be a bit more adventurous, pick something a bit more dressy for the rest of your outfit (still in neutral tones) to emphasize your shoe choice with the contrast.

3. Don’t be scared of dresses. Ditch the cute little flats and pair your spring dresses with your favorite sneakers. Skip the neutrals rule here and just go with a combo you like. How cute would a little white lace number be with any of the colored sneakers here?

Happy Tuesday!

  1. Love this trend too! I have the New Balance in a navy/khaki/red combo and I wear them All. The. Time. (And I am not pregnant, but keeping up with 4 kids is hard in heels too!)
