Lincoln had such a magical time at the zoo yesterday that I found myself with twenty minutes this morning while both children were still sleeping. Instead of rushing to get ready, I lounged on the sofa in the library while chatting with my mom and enjoyingwaking up slowly. It was nice.

But then I heard Adelaide and a few minutes later Lincoln was up. And the babies needed diaper changes and clothes. And then everyone wanted breakfast. And soon enough it was nine AM and I was still in my workout clothes from last night with mascara under my eyes.

Don’t get me wrong, I can get ready in about five minutes flat, but sometimes I’m looking for a little more relaxation in the morning. I want to read the front page of the paper in bed while classical music is playing and sip my hot chocolate while leisurely picking out my clothes.

But I have two tiny humans to take care of and they’re more into jumping on the bed than lounging in it and hot chocolate is the perfect thing to drop toys into. So, I’ve found a few ways to cut down on my morning routine without sacrificing the luxurious feeling of relaxation. Try adding one or two into your daily routine and let me know if you feel a difference!

  1. Skip your hair in the shower and find a good dry shampoo. Cut off a few minutes in the shower by only washing and conditioning your hair twice a week. For ideal application you should let the dry shampoo sit on your roots for at least 30 seconds to absorb the oil before brushing  your hair out. Take this time to rub it into your roots and enjoy a little scalp massage (or if you’re in a huge rush, get dressed while the shampoo sets).
  2. Find products that save time, or take up less than you’re used to. I used to save post-shower moisturizing for days I was wearing skirts or dresses because it took so much time to dry off after the shower, moisturize, and then let my skin dry before getting dressed. For the last week I’ve been using Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer with Cherry Almond Essence and you can use it immediately after the shower on wet skin! The Essential Oils work with water to lock in moisture and it absorbs immediately for faster moisutriazation. Just dry like normal after application and my skin stays soft all day. Not giving up the small luxury of moisturizing, just in time for winter has been a huge win over here.
  3. Find a playlist of calming (or energizing, just nothing that makes you feel rushed) music and use it as a timer. I love the idea of timing your morning routine because an extra thirty seconds here and there adds up when you’re trying to keep it short. But, using the alarm on my phone always leaves me feeling a bit stressed. Instead, spend a few days playing around with songs that add up to the total amount of time you want to spend getting ready. Then, learn the cues to keep you on track (for example: you have to be out of the shower by the end of the second song and dressed by the chorus of the third).

I also picked up the Coconut scent at Walmart (the Cherry Almond Essence is new and exclusive to Walmart) and love that one as well. Want more tips for winter skin + beauty ideas? Click here for advice from other bloggers.

  1. I love your playlist idea! I may really have to try that one. My routine always takes way too long!
